308 Ammo?

The extra fouling you get comes from the fact that steel cased ammo doesn't obturate (swell up and close) the chamber as efficiently as brass. I've shot steel case out of my AR's and 1911 and not had any problems aside from fouling. It should REALLY foul up an HK91 with a fluted chamber though, considering how bad brass ammo fouls one.

John Ross, you know "the author" - shoots nothing but Tula ammo through his guns when he does a rental shoot. I know, I was at one. He's got some rare stuff too.

Opinions vary, but having worked with a few russians "over there" they tend to be tinkerers and they definitely dont like it when something they make doesn't work. I don't think there's a commie plot to break our guns. I shoot a FAL when I do shoot 308 and occasionally shoot steel case, but the FAL extractor is MASSIVE. I would think that with any gas-adjustable system you just make sure you don't shoot it full-open to ease up the abuse your extractor takes - which you'd do anyway for brass. The extractors on my Garand's, if they're comparable to the M1A, seem about half as big as my FAL's. But, again, tuning your rifle to shoot your ammo should be part of any regime, whether it's brass or steel. Not all milsurp is quality, I'd shoot Tula over milsurp if I had a choice. But hell, I shoot it all up when I can - so it's not like the milsurp WONT get shot, it just wont get shot first!

I've shot plenty of Russian steel case ammo out of all 3 of my M1As. Never a problem and nary a burp. As long as the Russian ammo is selling for around $300 a thousand and most any brass case is selling for $500 to $600 a thousand, I'll shoot steel case very happily.

Blasted a bunch of old wolf ammo through my FAL a few times. Dirty as hell, but it goes bang and decently accurate. Would imagine the Tula ammo would be about the same due to being the same thing. Just make sure your rifle is head spaced properly for .308 if its a "military" rifle. Buddy of mine had some issues shooting .308 out of a 7.62 NATO head space. The rifle swallowed the .308 field gage. Anyways I like surplus better. Slightly more expensive but better manufacture in most cases.

I shoot MFS almost exclusively at this point for cost and it works just fine and is actually rather clean.

Tula on the other hand - 60 rounds of Tula looked like I would imagine my AK74 would look if I put an entire spam can of 1080 rounds through it. Super dirty but hit man sized targets at range with no trouble.

I think with the bad Wolf lot a few years back people are against anything made with steel and from Eastern Europe. Like I said I fire MFS in both 7.62x51 and 5.56x45 and have fired thousands of rounds with no trouble. I think its as reliable as any milsurp I buy. Combined with the older primers on old Soviet milsurp and "corrosion" concerns people shy away because of fear. I've been shooting corrosive milsurp and not cleaned my guns for 3 days with no rust or anything. Then again this is CO and its dry here.

I've personally not seen any ejector issues on any of my guns with steel shooting but then again my AK74's ejector is rather tough and the .308 comes out of the FAL which does have a beast of an extractor.
