OK so instead of a bunch of new laws and controls, that just make people go crazy:

we need a state or states where only tree hugging, free love hippies, government supported, anti gun, liberals, and peta folks, can live in peace and harmony and need papers to leave to explore the rest of the country. Occupied by gun toting, bible grasping, meat eating, hunting, fishing, BBQing, self reliant types.

This! Let's just make California the "Liberal Utopian state" and let them have their cake and eat it too! Hell, the measures are already in place- guns are hard to acquire, you can't really carry them, and the legislature doesn't even like them!

I like Rocky Mountain Republic ... RMR has a nicer ring than NROT.
