Sitting here sipping my muscat, late in the evening, and fantasizing. Care to join me?
Perhaps it's time to split the Country into to independent nations: The United Red States of America, and the United Blue States of America. The country is going down the tube, and the Democrats and Republicans have very different ideas on how to fix it. Let's let them each have free reign at giving their ideas a go.
Here's how it will work. Each State gets to vote on which Nation it would like to be a member of. Here's a map of how it generally might break down, by virtue of the 2008 presidential results:
Note, after Obama's dismal first four years, a couple blues may decide to go Red.
Some of the details:
- After the split, all red states send all Democrat/liberal politicians packing. Blue states do the same with their Republicans/conservatives.
- Once the vote is done, it's done. No second chances down the road. If you vote to be blue, you're a member of the Blue Nation forever more.
- Split the current national debt between the red and blue nations, by a percentage equivalent to the population of each.
- Red nation gets the bulk of the Military. Blue nation doesn't want it anyway.
- People shall not be trapped by the preference of the majority of the people in the state they happen to reside in. They can move. Blue minded folk can move to a blue nation state, and red minded folk to a red state.
- Each nation is free to create it's own individual constitution and bill of rights.
- Wall Street is free to load up it's equipment and people, and move out of New York. But the kids occupying it must stay.
- Blue Nation gets to keep Obama care.
---------
There, I've given you a start on some of the details. Go ahead and fill in some of your own ideas on them.
Go ahead, too, and start structuring how you'd want the nation you'd choose to join to look. What would you want to change in your nation about what is happening in the country now?
How would you structure the constitution of YOUR nation?
If Colorado remained blue, what would you do?
What do you see in your crystal ball, 20 years after the split?
