Default Apparently there was some excitement up in Georgetown this weekend

So this was brought to my attention when a friend started cop bashing on Facebook... Apparently, as the Westword Blog story goes (only place I could find reporting on this incident), a man was high on LSD and naked at the music festival up in Georgetown this weekend, cops approach the man and he gets violent with them, so- unsurprisingly- he gets a nice jolt from a X26 Taser. He continues to resist arrest and continues to get tased. If you're all screwed up on psychedelics and naked, I side with the Clear Creek County deputies in their decision to use tasers to restrain you from hurting yourself or others. Of course, the conversation on Facebook devolved into blind cop bashing (despite there being a video showing the guy resisting and the crowd nearing riot) and me pointing out that the deputies were well within legal grounds to taser a naked, drugged up guy resisting arrest. Of course I'm the bad guy because I'm not towing the "fuk da po-lice" line... Whatever.
Here's the 'story' with video on pg 3
    http://blogs.westword.com/backbeat/2...an_tasered.php
    Excerpt from Page 2:
Captain Bruce Snelling of the Clear Creek Sheriff's Department just spoke with us about the events this past weekend at Sonic Bloom, specifically the nude male seen in the video, who was tased by officers and subsequently cited for indecent exposure and disorderly conduct. "As officers approached him," Captain Snelling recalled, "he became violent and the officers tased him."The cell-phone footage below (which is most certainly NSFW) shows the unnamed man being tased. According to a pair of witnesses we spoke with who were on hand, the footage begins after a festival security guard allegedly "shoulder-checked" the man into a ditch, and that's when police stepped in. "From people in the crowd," Captain Snelling told us, "we heard that he was high on LSD."
Sources who wish to remain anonymous contend that the officers used excessive force, a criticism Captain Snelling quickly addressed. "All I can tell you is that the officers are really responsible for making sure people don't hurt each other, and some people need to be protected from themselves," he said. "It would've been worse if he darted into traffic, or into a fire pit, or drowned in the river... we would get blamed for that."
In addition to the nude male who was cited, Captain Snelling said there were roughly five other summons handed out this past the weekend for incidents ranging from disorderly conduct to interference with law enforcement. He also noted that despite the issues they dealt with this past weekend, officials have had no problems with organizers in the past. "They've been professional, and along with us, the events from this past weekend do not make that organization happy, either."

Lesson, when you're all messed up on drugs and get violent with police, don't be surprised if they zap you.

Just so you know, the use of Taser isn't to protect you from yourself. It's to protect me from you and probably a way to prevent you from getting shot.

I agree with KevDen. I firmly believe more people should be reminded how "alive" they feel when given a jolt of reality from an X26 Taser.

i can agree in principle with the first part. But the part in bold, who cares - not I. Wanna get jacked up on LSD and go drown in a river, meh have at it. I dont give a crap. As for the blame part. I doubt it. And even if they do get blamed by some bloke - So what. There is no legal responsibility to render any aid to the guy.

Unless of course when/if he gets hit by a car it puts the driver at risk of life of serious injury, then I care... besides, hippy is so hard to wash out.

Eventually he might. We can only hope. Remember, stupid can prove to be fatal... if left unchecked.

I really don't want him drowning in the river; it's a municipal water supply. Wandering over a cliff and being scavenged by coyotes would be fine, though.

It doesn't stop the lawsuits from being filed and having to be defended from them. We have a very litigious society.

Sure. But you can say that about everyone. Guy talking on phone falls into a fire pit. Or walks into the street while bird watching and gets smashed by a car. *shrug*
