Default Stuck a gas block installing it. Crap!

Low profile gas block on a White Oak barrel. The fit was very tight. I heated the gas block and it slid right on until it cooled off and stuck in the wrong position. Should have seen that coming. I've heated it a couple of times now and can't get it to move. I've got the barrel heat sinked with ice cubes because I'm worried about overheating it.

Fricking now what? Do I cut it off? Heat the crap out of it and not worry about overheating the barrel?

If the gas block isn't super expensive I would cut it off. Better to trash a $30 gas block than a $250 barrel.

That is why we use clamp style gasblocks....

Put barrel in vice, straddle barrel with an open ended wrench on gasblock...apply heat to wrench moving to front and back of gasblock rapidly, maybe 10 seconds 5 or 6 times on each end with propane. Try to tap off from there.

I can get it to rotate, but it's so small it hard to find a place to tap on it.

Can you put a crescent wrench on the barrel above the block, then tap the wrench?

I'm no expert, but at this point I would think you should put some sort of lubricant on the barrel on either side of the gas block that you intend to "tap" it.

    Got it.

Oil, moderate heat, and just the right tool for tapping got it unstuck. Whew!

I honed the inside of the block with 400g till it went on with hand force and that was that.

Now if my blood pressure would just go down I could get some sleep.
