Unhappy Boy Scout Shooting Program needs ammo

EDIT: Situation resolved -- I just got notice that the camp's order was delivered this week. I have no idea why the vendor told them their order was on indefinite hold a few weeks ago and then just went ahead and delivered it without notice but we're happy to have enough to meet this summer's requirements. Many thanks to those who offered to help -- other councils (Denver Area, Longs Peak, etc.) may have a similar need. I can't repeat this enough -- MANY THANKS to those who offered to help.

I know everyone's troubled by the current ammo shortage for their own shooting requirements but am hoping I can scrounge some help in buying quantities of .22 LR and 12 GA shotgun (2 3/4 in) ammo for Camp Alexander (Pikes Peak Council). This program helps initiate new shooters so I thought perhaps I might get some cooperation from board members in finding an in-stock source (preferably near C Springs) or picking up extra ammo when they see it.

The camp will pay for the ammo (I have a copy of their tax-exemption certificate for these purchases) -- the problem is that they submitted their order for 11,000 rds of .22 LR and 13,000 rds of 12 GA in November and just now got told their order is on indefinite hold. I actually saw the ammo shortage coming and would have submitted the order sooner if I'd known they didn't have enough for the upcoming year but what's done is done. They have a limited supply in stock but this is obviously going to put a huge crimp in our instructional program for these boys if they're limited to dry-fire.

Any help in spotting ammo deliveries would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

Yeah, they shouldn't have any trouble finding 12 GA. I will check my stock of 22 LR. This is a good cause.

Thanks guys ... we have until summer camp sessions start in June -- maybe even into July. I figured shotgun shells would be more available and was going to call Ammo Kan as they have been very supportive in the past but the .22 LR worries me. CMP told me they're out of stock until May and are even looking at the May date as optimistic. I haven't had to chance to inventory my own stock yet -- think I can put a dent in the .22 LR needs and just hope I can replace it over the summer -- but figured there were a lot of good people on this board who would be willing to let me know about availability or even pitch in buying a few boxes at a time if they saw it available. Obviously, it's easier logistically if I can buy or order the ammo myself than having to drive all over the state to pick up and reimburse people but it's gotten scarce enough that I have to keep an open mind.

I didn't want to jump the gun and was hesitating on posting something like this but figured the long lead time would help since ammo shows up so sporadically. Those of you up north may want to see if your own local councils are having similar issues -- most camps I know of are on thin budgets as it is and the fires last summer hit the camps north of Denver and outside Fort Collins pretty hard financially so they may not have been thinking about ammo shortages this fall.

PM me for a copy of the tax certificate (I have to be sure it's used only for these ammo purchases).

    Thanks for your consideration.

What size shot for 12 gauge? Just looking for skeet or bird loads? I'll look around for .22 lr, I don't have anything that shoots it so I have none on hand.

1 oz (8 shot) -- the shotgun merit badge is skeet only.

Are you looking for a particular brand/bullet of 22 lr? Are they allowed to use HPs? I have some, but I had planned on using most of it for our local 4H program, as they are having the same difficulties. As a former boy scout shooting sports instructor, I feel your pain. I worked at SPSR here in southern Colorado for a few years.

22lr can be found the problem is what are they willing to pay for it? I have found plenty at .10/rd which is on the expensive side.

Keep this post going and I will keep an eye out local and online.

I could part with a 555 block of Winchester (being it's for a good cause) if needed and will keep my eye on more
