View Full Version : Handgun Training for Wife?
Can anyone recommend a good course, or individual instructor who does BEGINNER handgun instruction?
I've taken my wife shooting a few times, but i haven't really tried to "teach" her. A) I'm no expert myself, and don't want to teach her bad habits. B) She doesn't respond well to my instruction, imagine that...lol C) i want her to get training from someone much more patient than i am.
Looking for someone who covers all the basics, and does live fire training. A class atmosphere would be fine, but i would prefer private instruction. The course being CCW compliant would be a big plus.
Anyone know something/someone who fits the bill? I got a flier from Jensen's last time i was there, Mrs. Jensen said that's who she uses, i just wanted to see what anyone else had for me.

Jim Torres at Tactical Skills Institute. My wife took his "basic handgun" course in May, had nothing but an awesome experience. Treats women very professionally yet they shoot right along side of men. Google "tactical skills institute" for his information.

I'd recommend she contact Deb Caldwell. She puts on a great NRA Basic Pistol course. She has extensive LE and competition background and really gets into giving a quality training experience.
PM me if you want contact info.
Thanks fellas, knew you guys would come through.
Open to anymore suggestions.
NineHotel: If you have a contact number that would be great.
Jim: Replied to your PM for more info.

I am also looking to get some basic pistol training for my wife. I would like it to focus on the safety and marksmanship basics, concealed carry and self-defense role.
I would like to find something near Colorado Springs. Any recommendations?

This thread could've gone a totally different direction. Or maybe I'm just a dirty bastard.

Chief,
I'd be happy to train your wife perhaps using the Isaak Walton League range for live fire if the weather holds. I trained hundreds (if not thousands) of folks in the service (and not like a typical "military" trainer) and trained a couple hundred women in unarmed self-protection on the civilian side.
I'm in the Springs, we could meet sometime after the election and I'd present my CV to you.

Boat Guy, thanks. Tonight is my last night with internet for about a month. We are taking down our satellite dish tomorrow to pack up and redeploy soon. I will be back in C.S. in a month, so I would like to meet you and discuss this further.

Whistling Pines in CO SPGS does a Girls Night Out/NRA 101 class just for women, taught by a woman.
As I recall, I think it was $125 for non-members and worth every penny!

Took the wife through his NRA basic pistol course and she loved it. Made her feel secure enough in her handling of pistols she's not affraid to head to the range by herself.
There are just somethings I'd rather have a 3rd person sho my wife... Saves me the agravation.
