So my school got a couple of Epilog laser engravers, the one I get to play with is a 40 watt CO2. I have done lots of "test" pieces, and this glass plate is one of them... I made this logo based on the other Hk logo's. The etching is on the bottom of the plate, and done backwards so it shows through properly from the top.

Here are some other pics of things I've played with.

The leather was a breif stint on how to screw up when you put the wrong numbers in the wrong spots... The thicker leather was for my wife's XDS, the power level was at 20, and the speed was at 100 on the laser. Then on the next piece of leather, the numbers got entered wrong... I wanted the etching/burning deeper, but only slightly deeper. So I bumped, or thought I bumped the power up to 30, and wanted to bring the speed down to 80. Well... I put the power on 80, and put the speed up to 30.... so it almost cut through it. The butterflies are too shallow, and when molding the leather, they pretty much went away. The other leather.... ya....... I wanted to try to make a holster out of it anyway to see if it would hold up, and suprisingly, it did. Both of these holsters are made for an XDS.

The Bodyguard was just blasted with the laser through the bluing, and it came out great!

Pretty cool stuff there, what happens when you laser engrave gun-kote or cera-kote? I'd be interested in finding out, I could even supply a victim.

I don't know how deep it cuts... I wish I would have seen your post earlier... I would have taken you up on the offer, I don't know how much time I have with the laser though....

Here are the things I did today. I tried to get a picture of the laser working, but it was too fast for my camera. The head of the laser is only about an inch off of the height of the plate. You can see it in the upper right corner of the last picture, it's set back in its zero.

Ya, the top of it. When it opens up, that is what others see on the lid.

You have to much fun!
Isn't that what you're supposed to do? lol
