View Full Version : Zastava PAP
So, I picked up one of these Serbian Zastava PAP's awhile back. It only accepts 10 round (7.62x39) single stack mags.
Im curious as to how/what can be done to make it accept the 30 round AK mags.
Any help would be most appreciated.
I dont know on the PAP. On the single stack WASRs is was just a matter of dremeling out enough room for a double stack to fit in the receiver. Like this:

Rachel Ray will be by anytime now-he knows quite a bit on how to do these, and from what I gather it's like opening up the single stack WASR's

I have done a few, open up the magwell, reconfigure the bullet guide and replace the bolt. The stock bolt is cut on the right side and will not strip rounds from a double stack mag. Usually a Polish bolt body can be had but then headspace needs to be reset.
PM me if need be.

if it's a first generation pap import you have to open up the receiver AND the trunnion, grind down the little cross block thats part of the bullet guide and 9 times out of 10 replace the bolt with a regular bolt i did one of these with a dremel and it sucked a mill would make it childs play though.
on the second generation non bulged trunnion pap it only requires opening up the receiver as the trunnion is wide enough but not sure about the bolt and bullet guide. post pictures that show the bullet guide in front of the breech and a picture that shows the trunnion in the magwell
here's how mine during the process

slant cut receiver and a straight cut stock? You must have been under the weather that day.

i haven't finished it yet, deciding if i'll have some one "fix" the receiver with a tig welder or if i'm going to shorten the stock and match the receiver, that's a take off m76 stock from assault weapons of ohio

I will have to tell you, having done this without a mill I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but a gunsmith. A lot of work and a pain. Am happy to send ya a PM with a step by step if you like. (I would make the effort to find a mill i have to tell ya.)
The bolt has to be swapped for a standard Ak bolt because they are different, you have to modify a lot more than just making the magwell wider. as a very wide over view.

Until there's more room in the shop a mill is not doable.

A mill, hmmm, I seem to have stubbed my toe on a Bridgeport recently. Now if I can just remember where it was.........

It's cheaper to pay for it done right the 1st time, then pay to fix the first time try, at saving a few dollars.

I meet Ralff every new years lol, and that is too many times for me. Him and Hughee just give me the worst time

It isn't as much fun or as satisfying though.

I dunno, with my luck I would grind away too much and be pissed at myself for ruining it.

I'm the same way. And I'm always happy to support good smiths that come highly recommended.

A first gen pap double stack conversion flat out sucks to do with a Dremel lol it took me about 8 hours worth of dremeling to get it perfect, I did a little here and a little there I never even shot mine as a single stack though haha

It seems like a cut off wheel would be perfect for this job. Then clean up with a file or Dremel.

That's perfect for the receiver which is cake, the part that sucks is opening up the inside of the front trunnion where the mag goes, on first gen pap's they have a narrower magwell in the trunnion
