On one side, I can see the point... nobody living out in the country wants to listen to gunfire all day long. On the other hand, nobody forced them to move there. I think in my mind, it's more a question of who was there first... if the gun club was, then fuck the neighbors. If not, then I think the gun club should figure out a way to make it more palatable. I don't think this is a gun-control thing, it's more of a neighborhood concern/noise pollution issue.

Same thing was going on with our range, club built higher berms but the residents have to deal with it as we were here well before they built up around the range.
Folks north of us moved next to a dairy, then more and more. Until the usual we can't stand the smell usual BS lawsuit. At court the judge told them if you have an issue MOVE.

We had the same crap at our ranch in Northern Cali, near Napa. All these cityfied idiots bought property "out in the country", then had the nerve to complain that it smelled in the summer, when we spread the poultry manure on the pasture. The judge said, "The is zoned rural ag, what did you expect? If you don't like it move!" That was nearly 20 years ago, so knowing Cali they would probably grant the injunction now.
it's more a question of who was there first... if the gun club was, then fuck the neighbors.
You're forgetting that people are just plain stupid. Almost to the point of full-retard. Look at all the housing developments popping up out by DIA. Isn't that why they closed Stapleton and built DIA so far out in the middle of nowhere- population around the airport complained about the noise?

The problem is that noises and smells can go past your property lines. The classic case I remember from college was some people buying land out in the country and building a house then sueing because they were downwind from a pig farm that had been operating for decades. IMO the smell was a preexisting condition but IIRC, the courts held the pig farm liable for smells going beyond their property lines.
I suspect SASS will need to build bigger berms and/or sound barriers and ring the property with trees and bushes to "contain" the sounds.
