I like the Clint Eastwood films. The original True Grit and Rooster Cogburn, Rio Bravo, The Cowboys and most of the rest of the John Wayne movies. Tombstone is great. Jeremiah Johnson is fantastic with all the scenery, just beautiful, I enjoyed Will Geer's character but I would have let those tourons freeze to death.

It sounds cliche, but The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly stands out for me because of Ennio Morricone's score. La Storia Di Un Soldato is my favorite. It's in english (and obviously sung by italians) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2LLVJBVufM
In the movie it's played at the union POW camp (so confederate prisoners) when they're interrogating prisoners. The bridge fighting between the Union & Confederate troops with the Union Captain was just beautifully done.

Hell yes! I love Firefly... I've been pondering even nerding out next month and going to the Denver Comic Con dressed as Mal.

Mine would be (sorry for the length, but I do love westerns):
Original True Grit
Unforgiven
Wyatt Earp (but gotta take all day to watch it, it's so damn long!)
Tombstone
McClintock (Best line: "hey, I'm not drunk! ...yet.")
The Searchers
The Man With No Name series
3:10 to Yuma (remake, never saw the original)
Rio Bravo
Open Range
about 99.9% of the Duke films (too many to name one by one besides what I named above)
Blazing Saddles
City Slickers (yes, many consider this a western)
Maverick
Seraphim Falls
The Quick and The Dead
Young Guns (I always crack up at the Peyote scene)

I've never really seen any westerns except for ones made after 1990. The last two years I've gone hunting with my uncle and we basically drink beer and watch a few westerns every night since he has the Encore channel. I browsed through this whole thread looking for titles I recognized, but Westerns as a genre are so out of context for me that they are difficult to remember.

I saw all of Winchester 73, some of Warlock, loved Support Your Local Sheriff, and saw parts of many others, including the very end of McCellin's Gold.

There are two movies that I saw a lot of but don't remember the titles and was hoping you guys might help me out.
One was where there is a rich family with the last name of Stewart, where the rancher invites his brother out from the big city to be the town lawyer. Meanwhile, a local that Stewart helped bring up in the world is obsessed with a young Mexican girl and is basically keeping her hostage until she run's away with the main protagonist's nephew.

EDIT: This one is Rio Conchos (1964). The second opens on a scene of gathering Apaches (?) that are gunned down by a rifleman hiding in the trees. The next scene is some army guys waking up a drunk to arrest him for the crime and finding in his possession a rifle that had been from a missing shipment of army rifles. The guy says he bought it and they concoct a plan to take a wagon full of gun powder to Mexico as bait or something. Also, the drunk guy gets thrown in jail and meets a trusted ally and demands that he be released for the mission down to Mexico, so it is two army guys, and the two guys from jail traveling together with the wagon full of powder. I started watching this one and wanted to finish it but fell asleep. Ring any bells?

Where is the Remake of Stagecoach? Released in 1966.
Filmed at the Caribou Ranch and the cast stayed in Boulder in the summer of 1965.
The bus would pick up the extras at the Harvest House. Slim Pickens rode a Harley up the Canyon.
Ann Margaret insisted she wanted a motorcycle to ride and the staff got her a small engine Japanese bike.
It was a kick seeing her chase Slim Pickens up the canyon.
A bunch of CU students and locals were hired as extras.

Sorry but 3:10 to Yuma was a bad movie all the way around.

No. The only stupid part was Prince coming out of the blue to shoot Evans on the platform, despite being tied up in the stampede just moments before. Surely Wade or Evans would've noticed him getting out and approaching before he was 10 yards away.

That being said, it was well-acted, the pace kept things in motion, and the characters actually had some life behind them.

For the sake of friendly banter.

Fails:
Casting Russell Crow (can't stand) as the predictable bad guy.
Casting Christian Bale (actually like) as the predictable reluctant protagonist.
A plot line that was figued out in the first ten minutes.
Lots of predictable events.
Trite ending.

Appaloosa was one of my favorite "pardner" movies.
Death Rides a Horse was a pre Clint spag. western. Had his character pegged. Even had Lee Van Cleaf.

Let's be honest, Westerns aren't exactly known for their puzzles and complexity. A predictable plot/sequence of events is nothing to fault it for. I'll agree that the ending was lazy, of course.

Hey what's that one Western where a town is having a problem with some bad guys, and no one seems to be able to stand up to them, but just in time a new guy/s ride into town who don't want any trouble, but aren't afraid to stand up for what's right, at the same time, the beautiful, and usually unattached girl in town develops a love interest in the brave protagonist?

i grew up watching the Alamo, with JW. One of the biggest disappointments was actually seeing the Alamo. The walls were 3' high. Were the Mexicans 6" tall? WTF?!
I might be mistaken but the Alamo you saw is only part of what used to be standing. There was a larger wall further out. Like a fort. The building in downtown San Antonio is only the actual church that was inside the fort.

I think.

Guess I should have paid more attention during "Texas history month" when I was in school.

Neither the movie nor the building site mentioned that little detail.

Maybe that part of the exhibit was in the Alamo's basement.

Oh, guess I could mention a few of my favorites. I'm sure they've all been mentioned before in this thread but here they are.

More recent ones....

Unforgiven
Open Range
Tombstone
Silverado
Lonesome Dove (may or may not be considered a movie but a great western none the less)

Older ones....

Anything with Clint Eastwood or John Wayne

I pretty much like them all.

Especially The Rifleman on Saturday mornings. Watching it now.
