View Full Version : Would you conceal carry @ Pepsi Center?
I'm attending the Nuggets game tonight and was wondering thoughts on conceal carry at the game. I know they have a no firearms sign posted as you walk in, but it's my understanding that doesn't apply to CCW permit holders (Pepsi Center policy?). The last few times I've been there, no one was wanding people entering the facility. Let me know your thoughts...
Yes you can as there are no permanent security guards or metal detectors.
If they wand you and find it and ask you to leave you need to leave

I've Carried in Pepsi. Never seen them use wands but they do occasionally go through women's purses. I think they're looking more for alcohol being sneaked in than guns. Don't want to be deprived of yet more overpriced drinks they extort there.

I wonder if they did wand me and I took it back to my vehicle...would they let me back in or would I lose my money on the ticket?
Security should be before the ticket takers. Be aware that the Pepsi center is NOT city owned, and qualifies as private property, so their rules apply. If they discover a weapon that their policy prohibits, they can ask you to leave. If you refuse, you can be charged with Trespass in the 3rd degree.

They wand at certain games. Probably at all playoff games. I always wondered what it would be like to be carrying and then get wanded. What would you say? That's just my gun. Don't worry I have a permit. Or just turn around and walk back to the car.

If you see someone wanding, don't attempt to go through. Just say you forgot something in the car, and go put it in the trunk. You don't want a confrontation with minimum wage security twits to get out of control.

Anywhere I might get a waist check; games, red rocks, etc.,
I roll ankle. I know it's not ideal, but I got it and someone can't "touch" it.
Just a thought.
JMHO, but I personally wouldn't. Every time I've been there, I've seen tons of cops and security, and in case of trouble I sure as hell wouldn't want to be pointed out as a MWAG for any reason. I have this aversion to being clubbed like a baby seal. And I wouldn't want to risk being sent away from an event I paid big bucks to see. I worry more about falling down the damn stairs there than I do about getting attacked.
Well, they were wanding everyone before taking tickets...I had already decided to leave it in the car because I wanted to have a drink at the game. Thanks for all the help/info!

Just some info... As of two years ago, Pepsi Center did not employ armed guards. But, as you said, Denver PD is everywhere.

I wouldn't / don't there either. I had a rescue knife (not even pointed) I had to put out in a car at an Avs game a few years back that they found on me. I can't recall if wanded or whatever.
My other personal thing is - it is private property. I'm just as much pro private property rights as I am 2A. That's just me.

I have and I would do it again, at least for an Avs game. The way I see it is you just have to be willing to walk back to the car if they have the wands out. Last game I went to they weren't wanding people at the west entrance.
I did find it hilarious that they searched my wife's small purse but I can walk right in while carrying.
Generally, it's a BAD idea to carry a gun at any crowded event packed with people, for a lot of reasons. If you shoot and miss, it will likely hit a bystander and everyone will stampede. For a block or two all around the stadium DPD is everywhere, so you are reasonably safe unless you need to walk several blocks or more to get to your car. If you need to carry, something like a NAA mini should be sufficient for piece of mind.

Just a heads up, they now have built in metal detectors at all entrances.

Shit I wouldn't want to go there anyways, I would be to afraid that DPD would beat or shoot me for the fun of it.

Most of you whom would not think twice about conceal carry at Pepsi center do it very often. See dogbreath 650 and tfogger comments. Personally a good reason for me not to spend any of my money at Pepsi center events. Have a great night.

I hear this argument a lot; "Why would you need a gun at X event/location?"
I carry everywhere, if I can't carry there I don't go there (unless its the DMV or jury duty or something like that).
But I don't carry a gun because think I might need it at my destination, I carry because I can't teleport between home and the venue and nobody is providing me with an armed security escort.

I heard a few months ago that they were in the process of installing metal detectors at all the entrances.

Oh yeah...? You heard that huh..... Did you take the time to read the thread? Maybe you missed the post that clearly stated that they did indeed put metal detectors at every entry way.

I would not send that in with your resume to be an editor at a gun-rag...just sayin'.

I agree with Clint saying if you shoot you might hit a bystander. That part is true.
The safe part? Eh. I always feel safe in the streets. I feel unsafe as fuck at work.

I agree with Clint saying if you shoot you might hit a bystander. That part is true. No matter where you are. Proper training for angles of fire highly mitigates the chances, no matter where you are. I guess I just react negatively to anyone telling me to forgo my ability to defend innocent life because other people can't shoot and the "cops" will protect us.
I'll hop off the soap box and go build some rifles now.

Completely agree with this.
There are plenty of places I wouldn't feel comfortable taking a shot, and likely wouldn't be justified (threat, target, backstop), that doesn't mean I shouldn't carry, or have the right to carry. Likewise, parking isn't exactly front row at these major sporting events, and I don't put my personal safety in the hands of ANYONE but myself.

Went to a nuggets game last week, they now have permanently installed metal detectors and wands. I didn't CC, but it did not pick up my small folding knife or my surefire flashlight. I did see them wanding several people after the walk thru detector beeped.
