Does anyone know when the new Cabelas stores are opening? Cabelas had said spring 2013, now it just says 2013. It will be cool to have one on both ends of town.
I heard their plan is to open in August.
Just passed Cabelas. It's open now.
Oh, wait. I just passed through Kaerney.
Sorry, I have no idea. Maybe a few of the people who applied for jobs there know for sure.
I heard they pushed it back 2-3 months so Aug sounds about right.

I go past the site often. As of yesterday, the sign out front said "Summer 2013".
Yep. Rumor on the streets is August.

The ammo line already has them camping outside
I am number 3 in line
The exterior is almost done, the parking lot is down, they are moving fast on it. I am sure the weather is slowing them down a bit, but with it dry inside they should be able to kick ass on the interior. Can't wait for it to open, been a Cabelas kid forever.
My parents are coming out from Omaha at the end of the month, my Dad wants to shoot, I told him he needs to bring ammo. They live about 3 miles from Cabelas in LaVista and that Cabelas is pretty well stocked with ammo. 9, 40, 45 at non panic prices and as much as you want. 223 in stock but a bit above non panic prices. I am sure it is because it is Nebraska (no real panic going on) vs. being a Cabelas.
I don't know, but I'm fixing to put in yet another application to the one in Lone Tree. That's only 5-6 miles from home, would be a great place to work.

They seem to get reloading stuff in when others can't. Driving to Milliken to get stuff sure kills a day although they (Elk Bomb) are really hard to beat with know how and pricing. All I need is primers, powder and projectiles....

So now two Cabelas in Denver. I can see it now... we don't have that in stock here but the south store has it. The Lone Tree store is 20,000 sf larger roughly that the one up north. Next to come is two more Bass Pro Shops one north of the springs and one in Loveland. I think the brand and allure of theses stores will be diluted in the Denver market. They will now become a basic store like Gander Mountain or Sportsman Warehouse- nothing really special about them. When I travel if a Bass Pro or Cabelas is near by we stop and check out the store, somewhat of a destination on our travels. I am glad to see A Cabelas in the Denver metro area but don't think we need two stores. Will miss the drive to Sidney though....nevermind the mother-in-law lives up there so I will still be making that drive.

Just had a guy doing his finally interview over there for management in archery. He said they told him it will definitely be the "Spring", maybe the "start" of Summer. Not as long out as August. He didn't give an actual date since he didn't have one given to him, either.

i wonder if the website for the development where Cabelas is going has an idea when they're going to open?
the thornton one looks to be farther along than the lone tree one.

Im not sure the exact day. I just HOPE and PRAY they have better customer service than Gander, DICKS, and Bass-Pro! What am I writing about?
ANY other business on planet Earth has better customer service than Gander, DICKS, or Bass-Pro! I don't know about you guys but, I absolutley hate going up to the counter in any of those stores. Especially in the gun departments. THEY BLOW! I think those companies intentionally higher the most worthless person to help you.

Well considering spring isn't even here yet, its gotta be months out. Spring to them may be 2 months of no snow. I myself will be glad to see them open. Bass Pro will have to actually treat customers with respect at the gun counter, well actually, who cares I won't go back there again in Stapleton. Last time I went there, the gun counter treated everyone like dirt, and the place reminded me of walmart, with all the circus freaks wandering the place.

Yeah, I've noticed that a lot. Nothing pisses me off more than walking up to a counter, seeing several employees look right at me, and then watching them go right back to bullshitting and ignore me! I've never worked retail, but Goddammnit, give me a chance and at least I'll wait on the customers!!!

Searched for, and hadn't seen this posted here, so here is Cabelas recent press release about the Lone Tree and Thornton stores:
Cabela's Announces Opening Date of Thornton and Lone Tree, Colo., Stores
Ribbon-cuttings scheduled for 10:45 a.m.; doors to open at 11 a.m.
http://www.cabelas.com/assets/cms/img/retail/store_images/Thornton_LoneTree_CO.gif
SIDNEY, Neb. (June 17, 2013) Cabela's Incorporated, the World's Foremost Outfitter® of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, will celebrate the official grand opening of its two Denver-area locations – Thornton and Lone Tree – Thursday, Aug. 15.
Ribbon-cutting ceremonies hosted by Cabela's executives and special guests will begin at 10:45 a.m. at each location and doors will open for business at 11 a.m. Opening day will begin a weekend-long celebration featuring outdoor celebrities, events for the entire family, giveaways and more.
The Lone Tree store will be located in Douglas County south of Denver in the new RidgeGate Commons development along Interstate 25 at RidgeGate Parkway, about a mile south of Park Meadows Mall. The 110,000-square-foot store will employ approximately 200 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees.
The Thornton store will be located north of Denver in a new retail development along Interstate 25 at 144th Avenue. The new development will be located on the southeast quadrant of the interchange and is being developed by Thornton Development, LLC. The 90,000-square-foot store will employ approximately 175 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees.
The stores' interiors are built in Cabela's next-generation format designed to surround customers in the outdoor experience. The exteriors reflect Cabela's popular store model with log construction, stonework, wood siding, a large glass storefront and metal roofing.
In addition to thousands of quality outdoor products, the stores feature a gabled entry facade, fireplace, Gun Library, Bargain Cave, Fudge Shop and mountain replica featuring North American game animals re-created in their natural habitat.
Currently, Cabela's operates 44 stores across North America with plans to open an additional 16 over the next two years. The Thornton and Lone Tree stores will be Cabela's second and third in Colorado, joining the Grand Junction location opened in 2010. The company also operates a digital innovation office in Westminster.
The Thornton store looks tiny compared to the Lonetree, I will sneak out of work opening day to be at the Lonetree store.

Who opens a store on a frickin' Thursday?
The Grand Junction Cabela's store is a great addition. I've been a long time Cabela's mail order customer but was reluctant to order their hunting clothes. It makes a big difference when you can see the product in the store. I've spent a lot of $$$ on hunting & winter clothes at the Cabela's here in the past 3 years. If you're patient and work the sales you can get great deals.
The GJ store is only 70,000 sq. ft., but the company said they might build a new, larger one here if this store does well. Hope so. I may have to make a trip to check out the Cabela's at Lone Tree.
I'll be up in GJ for the Peach Festival at that time. I'll have to check out the Cabela's up there.

Okay, got ya. Maybe I'll delay my departure and check out the grand opening.
I might sneak out of work as well to hit the Lone Tree shop. I've never been in a Cabela's or Bass Pro store before.

Who opens a store on a frickin' Thursday?
A lot of places do, it's a sort of soft opening before the big weekend. Gives the 100 or so brand new employees time to learn their jobs better before they get slammed. When I worked for Gander mtn, they typically did it similarly. They'd have experienced employees come in from other stores to help get the noobs up to speed but normally only 1 or 2 for each department for about 3 days of business and then they're on their own.

Welcome to the Grand Valley, Jmetz. Hope there are some peaches for you this year. Many orchards lost their crop due to cold temps.
Cabela's built a smaller but still impressive store here, a step up from Sportsmans Warehouse which opened in 2001. Both are far more hunter shooter friendly than the Sports Authority pablum which caters to soccer moms. Cabela's is in the Mesa Mall where they expanded the former Mervyns clothing store space.

Thanks, good to know. It's really more about the ride and hitting some of my favorite roads then anything else, but you can't beat a Palisade peach so hopefully there will be some around.

I hate to brag, but....Cabela's scheduled the openings for August 15th to celebrate "Ginsue's Birthday". Only the Senior Corporate Executives at Cabela's know why this date was chosen, so mum's the word. 'K?
BTW, thanks for posting this Singlestack - I added it to the site Calendar.

You may be surprised. I don't know anything about the retail world, but good first impressions should be priority. If I were opening a new store, I'd ensure fully stocked shelves, even if that meant stockpiling until the stores opened.

I've been to the cabelas in Dundee, Michigan and Omaha, Nebraska and both were very impressive. They typically have a mountain in the center of the store covered in taxidermied game and streams with live fish, etc.
I'm also impressed that Bass Pro a shops decided to build a store on the north end of Colorado Springs at the exact same time. Doesn't seem like the best business strategy, considering that the cabelas will be opening way ahead of the BPS, but I think it's good for the development of Colorado Springs.

I feel the same way. These look like they are about 1/2 the size of a normal Cabela's. The one in Grand Junction - in a mall - is also about 1/2 the sq. ft. of a standard Cabela's.
I guess CO doesn't rate a full sized store. If we just had some sort of outdoor activities you could do in this state.

I'm sure they see the writing on the wall. No need for a large store when they will have to do away with the whole firearms/hunting department in the next few years. Pretty much will become another REI type store if the libs get there way.
I'll be there at the Thornton store. Been saving up my gift cards and cash for a while. Should be a fun day at the register!

Talked to one of the assistant managers to be for the Bass Pro shop in Colorado Springs. Infamous prebble mouse was the cause of the delay on their opening. Originally it was supposed to have happened sometime in Jul.

If I remember correctly, they had planned a full size store in Golden in 2006-2007, even had the excavator's come out and level ground, but then a combination of Golden being Golden and bad contractors/bubble bursting, they pulled out of the deal. I think they even paid to have that Youngsfield exit on I70 redid in anticipation for higher traffic. Hwy 58 as well.

I play golf at Applewood, the adjoining property just west of the proposed Cabela's Wheatridge site.
One guy in our foursome was a city/county admin-type with all the straight scoop.
While we were waiting to tee off he related that the State wanted Cabela's to pay for ALL the I-70/CO58 interchange flyover fix, which should have been incorporated when it was first built. There was no convenient transition from EB58 to WB I-70. Cabela's said no.
After many months of legal hassles they agreed to Wheatridge, CO, JeffCo and Cabela's to each pay 1/4...Cabela's agreed.
THEN some retired attorney who had a home south of the land decided it would decrease his property value and wanted Cabela's to pay 3 time what his place was worth. They, of course, declined and decided he could have tied them up in courts for years before building, they pulled the plug.
Cabela's had spent a lot in prep too. At one time they had about a dozen earth movers leveling the property, and had put in a large pond to demo their boats, fishing gear, etc. They did it right too. Lined the pond with clay and serious plastic. Small, greedy minds torpedoed the project...sure a shame.
