Just got nailed going 15 over. 4 points and 169 bucks. If I just send the money it is 2 points. Two things are clear to me after this.
1) I really need to register this car, been driving it for three months now with no plates and I just narrowly missed getting it impounded today.
2) Clearly what saved me previously on speeding tickets was the Ooh-Rah Marine Licence plate I had. Back to point one.
Meh, I will take care of it next week. Never put off tomorrow what you can put off today.
Really? That's what you got out of that?

If you go to court and speak to the assistant DA you can likely have the ticket reduced to 0 points if you agree to go to traffic school.

I got one Monday...11 over, $345. Didn't even know I was speeding, the speed limit on the highway there should be at least 45. I felt like I was crawling along going 35, gave the deputy a friendly wave as I passed by. Wrong, it was a 25.
What I take away is that I should be like a friend of mine. He gets a ticket for going 90 in a 55 and it's a $40 fine. I get a ticket for 36 in a 25 and it's a tax stamp or 1k of .223.

See, there's no reason that 40mph should be a $200 fine...unless you were doing it through a freaking school cafeteria.
One small problem I see here- you mailed it in, so too late for that, but people seem to always do that because they see it could be a good thing to just take the reduced points. 9/10 times the ADA will work with you if you go to court (not to fight it)... Since working in the insurance world I've been lucky to not get popped (knock on wood) but I learned that regardless of what the offense is (unless it's a major- 20+, reckless, etc) it's still a moving violation and will make your insurance rates go up, so I intend to go to court and ask that if they're going to reduce it to a 2 pt ticket, make it a non-moving violation so my insurance doesn't go up on me. Win-win either way, they get their money (which is really what they're after) and your insurance doesn't get dicked up. My advice, try for illegally parked or something trivial like that.

I got it today. 169 bucks is a chunk of change but not what I would miss out on by not being at work.
I will say I've never received a speeding ticket I didn't deserve. I think of it as a velocity tax.

True, but think about how much your insurance will go up... for 3-5 years, depending on the company. I'm just about to have my 2010 ticket fall off.

We used to do this kind of thing at Silverthorne, but you had to pay twice the amount, minimum, you couldn't have anything in your record for the past two years, and you couldn't get any other moving violations for the next two years, or else all points were reinstated.

I think Ronin has the right approach here.
I got a ticket about a year ago going 69 in a 45 mph construction zone. The cop was "nice enough" to mark the ticket at 59 in a 45 construction zone to reduce my double fine fee to $400 and some odd dollars. The trouble I had with the ticket was the construction zone wasn't marked on the side of the road I was traveling. The construction was 4 lanes and a median away, off the shoulder, on the opposite side of the highway. I would gladly slow down for safety, but I had no idea I entering a construction zone and there were no signs.
I went to court and told the ADA my side of the story. He said, you know you are about the 6th person to tell me a very similar story, all tickets from the same cop. How does defective windshield, no points, sound instead? I took the non-moving violation in a heartbeat.
Now if I felt like I really deserved the ticket I might take a different approach, but I think the courts will work with you to reduce fees and points either way.

After getting multiple 12 point racing tickets, losing my license for 7 months, paying a lot of money to a lawyer, I now drive like a grandpa. VERY rarely do I even go 5 over. Feels good to not slam on my brakes when I see a cop shooting radar. :)

I never mind paying a ticket I deserve.
However the last 2 I've gotten have me miffed. for the following reasons.
1. I'm not a speed demon anymore. There was a time in my youth when I was going 90 or nothin'. Now if I speed it's on open road and less than 5mph over.
2. The first one, officer lied. I was NOT speeding by 6 over, I was slowing down coming into town, and meeting speeds as they stepped down. The officer pulled me over, told me I was going 46 in a 40, that I was wrong there was no 45mph zone. It was his town, I told him "It's your town and you know it better than I do" and signed the ticket. My next time through town I double checked. There WAS a 45 zone. I ALWAYS try to go the speed limit in town, and it annoys the crap out of me when people I've passed on the open road pass me in town at the same speed they were going on the highway. It downright pisses me off when I get the ticket...
3. When I was 18 I got a ticket for 96 in a 55. It was $220. The ticket Monday was for going 36mph....and I certainly didn't think I deserved it, I was just cruising with my wife and kid and waving to a cop...
4. My neighbor got busted for 90 in a 55 and driving erratically...He gets let off. He gets busted for going 85 in a 55, it's a $40 ticket, no points... IN A 1 TON.

Speaking of points...how do they work?
I've never gotten a point before, no idea how they work, what they mean, when they go away etc.
The points work for a 2 year period. They are as follows:
Age 16-18=6 points in 1 year, 8 points in 2 years.
Age 18-21=8 points in 1 year, 12 points in 2 years.
21+=12 points in 1 year, 18 points in 2 years.
At least that's how it was when I was getting my first hand experience. :) The younger bracket may be different now with all the young driver laws.

I hear that. It took one 26 point ticket to break me of speeding. The only time I'll cross the speed limit is if I'm passing someone and that rarely happens as I'm usually doing 2-3 under the speed limit.

What use to work does not any more. The bottom line is REVENUE You have it the .gov wants it.
EVERY TICKET WRITTEN TODAY all comes with the Caveat. IF YOU send this in it gets reduced to 2 points. The fine is 2-3x what going to court would cost BUT the State / city / county only wants your money. Be it 10 over or 25 I know from "someone who knows someone who got a ticket"
That same person may have received an 18pt speeding [50 over in a 55] and the cop said. Tell ya what i'll suggest they reduce it to 2 points and a driving class. When asked "why even write the ticket" He says. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY, HAVE A GOOD DAY.

Was it the Sheriff's dept who clocked ya? You gotta watch those business parks over in DTC and Centennial areas. My wife got clocked doing 47 in a 35 over in the Centennial Technology Place by a Sheriff's deputy (Sheriff's dept is in the same technology area just south of there). He was parked just on the other side of a hill so nobody could see him while driving up the hill and they are picking up speed going down the hill before they notice him. No excuses... she was speeding and got caught. It just sucks because it was her last week of rotations in that area. Oh well.

When i lived in Vegas i rode with SinCitySportbikes. They had a trip planned to head to Death Valley from Vegas and spend the day riding the 90+ mph sweepers through the Valley. In winter it is actually tolerable for temperatures there. Well, I got a late start that morning and missed the main group, as did one other guy. So we took off to try to catch up with them. Headed out of Vegas towards Pahrump and hung a left on some no name road heading to Death Valley. We werent racing or anything, just trying to catch up. And in NV all the roads outside of town are nothing but straight lines for literally miles. I could see where this road curved about 15 miles from where we were. And the speed just started climbing.
So here I am, tucked down relaxing and cruising. Not really paying attention to how fast I am going. I see in the distance a car coming towards us. I am keeping an eye on it. Thinking I am good since I don't see a light bar. About the time the antennas on the trunk become visible the grill lights up like a Christmas tree. Damn, cop. I roll off the throttle, sit up and turn into a sail and look down at the speedo. 165 at that point. Considering I had already come off the throttle, became an air brake the fact I was seeing 165 meant I was traveling over 170 mph when the lights started flashing. The other guy and I were pulled over, our leathers off, licence and registration out and waiting for about a minute or two before the cop got turned around and parked behind us.
I was not about to run from the cops. I don't like Chris Rock, but he does have it right about that. If you run from the Cops they are bringing an ass whooping with them.
End result the cop wrote us for 110 in a 70. I got it lawyer-ed down to 180 bucks and a parking ticket.

When I was working the roads I never was "nice" and wrote a lower speed. It's falsifying a government document doing so. I know some cops do it to be "more friendly", but screw that...I left it up to the person if they wanted to go to court and the lawyers to plea it down. Just wasn't worth it to me.

31 MPH over is Reckless Endangerment in NV and it means vehicles are impounded and people wear bracelets. He may not have wanted to deal with that, or he may not have gotten any lazer or radar on us and was taking a swag. He didn't ask how fast we were going, we didn't say. He yelled at us about racing and wrote the ticket. Honestly I have no idea how good a radar signal you could get on two bikes coming at you while you are driving 70 and they are driving 170 for a closing speed of 240 mph, and getting a read on speed when they are oncoming like that is a bit tricky as well.

Just an FYI: The radar detectors only pick up radar signals if a law enforcement officer is using the radar detector. If a LEO is using Lidar, your radar detector won't pick up the signal. Radar is a big cone shapped beam and Lidar is a small straight beam. The only way a radar detector will pick up Lidar is if the LEO aims it at the windshield and hits the detector (which we don't aim it there).

I couldn't even begin to count the number of tickets I wrote to people with "good" radar detectors. If you wanna know you're about to get a ticket, a radar detector is a great tool.

Change the name to ticket detection device then? HAHAHA, that's hilarious! I have my V1 and it's done good about warning me to traps, other than that it's basically a "You're about to get pulled over" detector. But I haven't been pulled over in about 3 years (again, knock on wood).

I've been known to follow people for substantial distances along Hwy 285 in the middle of the night with the little red and green lights of the detector (usually mounted on the windshield underneath the mirror) clearly visible through the back windshield. It's fun to hang back a ways as their speed is around 15 or 20 over and tap the trigger on the radar gun for just a "blip" of energy. The detector in the cars would light up like a Christmas tree, the driver would slow down until he thought it was "safe" and the speed would gradually creep back up. Tap the radar again and repeat. It was great fun...especially explaining how I'd been following them for several miles.
There are some things I miss about law enforcement.

Back when I used to get a lot of tickets and have the time to appear in court, I would ask about taking classes, or other things to reduce the tickets, or points, or whatever. I got shut down EVERY time. People always say, "Just offer to take traffic school," but it was never an option for me.

^^ Nice!
Ok, here's my speeding story...
Once upon a LONG time ago, when I was decidedly young and dumber...
It was St Patty's day, and I had already had a few Guinness under my belt. I was still living out in the country at the time. About 10pm, I got a booty call from a girl in town, and figured I should be good as long as I stuck to the frontage road and watched my speed. When I picked her up, she was pretty well 3 sheets to the wind, and smelled like she'd been trying to absorb the rest of the bottle of Jack topically. (Yes, the glory days of my youth...) We decided to run by Wal-mart before heading back to my place. We make it as far as the parking lot to Wally World, when the lights turn on behind me and the whole world comes crashing to a halt. I wasn't shitfaced, but definitely shouldn't have been driving, and the girl wasn't helping the overall image either. Cop was relatively polite, and asked me if I knew how fast I was going. I thought I was doing 5-10 over, but he claimed I was doing 70 in a 35. I handed over the license and paperwork, and started already mentally preparing to spend the night in jail.
Then a few seconds later, he literally tosses all of my paperwork back through the window, says "it's your lucky day", and takes off SPRINTING toward his car. Throws the siren on, burns rubber to make a u-turn, and takes off. I don't have the slightest idea what the call was, but he had us dead to rights before then. Even as dumb as I was back then, I still took note of the fact that second chances like that don't come around but once in a lifetime. Never drove under the influence again, and I've made peace with maintaining a speed <10mph of the limit no matter how much of a hurry I'm in.

Best one I've had: (no ticket though)
Eastbound 70th ave @ York. Red Light.
Wanted to get out in front of the traffic when green. (merge to one lane)
1979 Kawasaki KZ750 twin
Green, Nailed it, crap, State Patrol westbound.
Shutdown, normal speed.
See him turn around in the mirrors and hit the lights.
I pull over before he gets up to me, shutdown the bike, take off helmet.
He asks for papers, license.
"HOLY SHIT, A LEARNERS PERMIT!?!, JESUS..." heads back to his car. I'm thinking, "JAIL", impound bike.
Comes back to me shortly after that. "TAKE IT HOME, GO STRAIGHT HOME NOW, IT'S YOUR LUCKY DAY!" YES SIR!
He leaves in a hurry westbound, I leave and head straight home. I didn't ride again after that. Sold the bike, never got my M endorsement.
Limon Colorado:
Pulled off I-70 to fuel up the 1967 Buick Lesabre Mafia Staff Car, returning to highway, I punch it. I'm lit up before I get to the other side of I70 to get on the merge ramp.
Officer says "That things pretty fast." Explains to me how fast, like 45 in a 30. Asks if I want to see the gun? (I'm thinking pistol?? Really?) then I realize it's the Radar gun he wants to show me. [facepalm]

The one time I thought they had me dead to rights, I was on my bike headed to Pueblo. Just out of town I had a newer mustang pull up next to me wanting to race. He slowed down next to me and was egging me on. I ignored him, he got in front of me and hit his brakes. I went around him, and back into the right lane. The second time he got in front of me and hit his brakes, I just wanted to get away from him. I got in the passing lane and gunned it. When I passed the trooper coming south, I looked down and saw 195. I slowed down and pulled off on the beginning of the exit ramp where he could see me. The mustang blows past me one the highway, I get off the bike, take off my helmet and wait. Next thing I know, the state trooper passes me and waves. About three miles up the road, I pass the mustang pulled over by the trooper.
About two months after that, I got rid of the 'Busa. The short circuit between my brain and right wrist is just too uncontrollable. I have had a couple bikes since, but nothing that would do over 100.

I was out with my club outside of Vegas and we were all rolling on. I was doing an indicated 185 when a buddy on a turbo 'busa blew by me like I was standing still. He said that his gps showed him at 225 and that he could feel the rear wheel spinning because it couldn't get traction.
