View Full Version : Gunsmoke 45 Cerkote Estimate was crazy $$$

I've been looking for local shops to Cerekote my stripped lower, stripped upper and hand-guard. Most quotes have been around $50 to $70 per part depending on the shop, certified or not. The three parts together would run me $150 to $210 + tax. However, here is the quote I got from Gunsmoke 45 inc.;

"...it will run you around $700-900 for the parts in one color. at the moment we are 1.5 years out on gunsmithing work and it will be 2-3 months be for we will be taking on new work.

Wow, that would be double for what I paid for the parts! A tad on the high side, but that's just my 2 cents.

Haven't you seen the TV show?

$7500 for a Mossberg MVP and a S&W governor, and you'd expect them to be anywhere near reasonable on any service?

Surprised the IRS has let them remain open.

Not surprised about their reply, but I am extremely surprised folks are still going there for anything...even quotes.

I would believe so... They're too stingy to provide it for you. Bring your own condoms too.

Who even goes there?
I haven't met anyone who still goes there... And if I did, I wouldn't associate with them. Can't trust anyone who willingly goes to Gunsmoke.

I can think of places better to hang out with her than "daddy's" shop... They did just move to Evergreen a few months ago. ;)

Yep. Lawyers are expensive. And they could probably do it in only 10 or 12 months if they didn't have those pesky, time-consuming court appearances to make.

I went in there today to see what was going on. The Man himself was in there, on the store floor the entire time I was there (1/2 hour). All guns on display are marked "NOT FOR SALE-DISPLAY ONLY". Said they are in between waiting for their new FFL which should come any day. Very quiet, phones not ringing at all. Huge "gunsmith" sitting by the fireplace reading "Blue Book of Gun Values" the entire time I was there. Several people in and out, the show, the show, did you watch the show? Blah, blah. They look a little bit haunted, as if they're waiting to get punched every time they talk to someone. Last customer I heard that came in was beefing with Rich about why his gunstock repair was taking so long. Said he had been trying to get an update for 5 weeks on very minor work. Rich was feeding him a line of shit and I could tell looking at the guy's face that he knew it.

One more reason not to deal with them. For that kind of money you could buy a bunch of parts and a bunch of paint and keep trying until you get it right,...and save money,

You need a shop that has integrity, a bit of humility, fair prices and a fair turnaround.
I know of such a place....

What if I told you, I could do: Hard Coat anodize level III mil spec in a camo patern. Never peel, flake, scratch, fade off? I could take your black part, strip it, rework it and send it back to you as explained in the beginning. I could prob do it for about $350 and If I had multiple people, parts etc. I could reduce that cost significantly!!

Talk to BP, or if it's too far of a drive for you, check out the industry partners here. But people have been known to drive from CO Springs to 120th to have work done there.

Too many good guys here who can do the work for fair prices to be getting deep anal probed at Gunsmoke.

You would THINK with the industry partner section. The NUMEROUS referrals to BP, Bowers, MGT, ABCDEFG-Z

A board member would inquire to them before asking in GD or build it yourself or anywhere here where to get something gun related done.

I see it on numerous boards.
OP ask where to get a bbl cut for an AR

2 post up is another one asking who does gunsmithing

3 post down from the top one is another member asking who can mount a scope??

DOES anyone take the time to actually investigate ANYTHING ANYMORE??

Dating myself here, BUT REMEMBER WHEN you had the yellow pages in front of you, calling around to find someone to do something for you.. You'd THINK [ KEY WORD] in today's information world, someone could get on line and do a SEARCH for their needs vs. asking someone else to do the work for them [facepalm][facepalm]

I'm thinking it might be because a referral carries more weight??? Asking and someone saying go to XYZ because they do great work, carries a lot of weight.

I would like to see what the final product looks like. I have always preferred anodizing to painting. I look forward to seeing what it looks like.
