Ended up winning 200 rounds of Fiocchi 40gr V-Max .223FHVB. Bullet is a V-Max polymer tip boattail

Unlikely these will do very well in my AR, which all have 1:7 twists. Thinking 1:12 out of a bolt rifle would be ideal, which I don't have. Thoughts?

Also don't you all think it would be totally wrong to sell this ammo? Almost like slap in the face and as bad as regifting. Honorable thing would be to buy a varmint .223 ammo.

I have shot them in everything from 7 -14 twist barrels.

They did just fine.

Unexpected out of a 7 twist barrel but nothing is ever predictable it seems. I had a 1:12 twist AR that shot 69 grain HPBT bullets as well as my faster twist ARs.

Load some and see how they perform. I swapped all my under 50 gr bullets for 55 'ers, after i sold the 1:12 bolt action.

Now that is the kind of encouragement I need. Ran across a Savage Model 25 light varmint with a 1:9 twist, so good to hear folks are getting good results.

The only problem with "overstabilizing" a bullet is if the bore is old and rough. The resultant cuts in the jacket "might" cause jacket shedding and mid-air explosions. You will notice more heat in the barrel with the lighter faster bullets, so don't be doing mag dumps and you will be fine.

Thanks Gents. My AR setup isn't ideal for varmint hunting and the bullet would be a waste to use punching paper. Just don't see me building another varmint rig, when the one I have doesn't see the outside fo the safe very often, but stranger things have happen. Worse case I'll use it from trade fodder at some point in the future.

I get great accuracy out to 200 with them in a 9 twist. They're very wind sensitive though.

At 40gr, wouldn't be surprised on how much the wind can push that bullet around. Muzzle velocity is advertised at 3600 fps and with the V-Max bullet, expect the affects on a target are impressive.

Decided these are to become trading fodder. Good ammo, just not something I have a use for.
