So, thought I would install a gas block that had about .002" interference fit by heating it up and sliding it on. Well, perhaps I should have put the barrel in the freezer for a while too. It went on part way and that was all she wrote. Looks like I'll have to cut it off and try again. There's $40 down the tube. Fook.

I did exactly the same thing. Try penetrating oil, I got mine off without destroying it, then used some emery on a dowel to get a nice fit.

I don't care too much about the gas block. I can pick up another one. I'm more concerned with pressing it off and galling up the outside of the barrel. Although I guess it would only be a cosmetic issue and a little emery paper would clean it up and it would function just fine. It's all going to be under a handguard anyways.

Thanks, mi amigo. I'll take a crack at her first. If I can't get it apart at the house I do have access to an 80 ton press. [Awesom]

I thought .002 seemed reasonable.... at the time. [facepalm]
Hey, Bert....
Probably taking this to the press in a day or two.
Do I take it off or just shove it the rest of the way on?
Really thinking about just shoving it home and carrying on.

Better make sure you get it on straight so the holes are lined up. Good luck!

She's straight and headed in the right direction. My only fear would be if it pulled metal and balled it up over the gas port.
Ta da. All better now.
