So I'm wanting to get my motorcycle endorcement. Anyone know of any classes I can take in the Highlands Ranch area or pueblo. Or do any of you run these classes.

Good for you for wanting to take the class!!!

I always beg my friends that want to get into riding to take the class worth every dime and most insurance companies will give you a discount for taking it so it does pay for itself !

I dont have a suggestion on where to take it since I took mine 20 some odd years ago in new mexico ( where it was at the local DMV office put on by the MOST organization ( I cant recall what MOST stands for ))

The ABATE class is the way to go. The classes book up in advance, but call them up and ask to be put on the waitlist...you may get in a class sooner. The course I took was held at Arapahoe CC on Santa Fe.

Ill look into that. I know they had one at Thunderridge high school up here. If I take the class I get the endorsement right?

That is how it worked when I got mine way back when.. took the class.. went in to the DMV office with my paperwork .. took the eye test, pic and they handed me my license

But that was way back when and in New Mexico.

I did the ABATE in 2007. I don't think DMV even made me re-do my eye test.

On the one hand, at the end of the class you'll be fully trained to do cone patterns in an empty parking lot at 11MPH on a one-lung 250cc UJM. OTOH, everything else you need to know starts there.

MSF classes are great. I'm taking a refresher in the next couple months. If they don't provide the bikes, make sure you take a beater than runs ok.

I did the Abate class in Broomfield/Westminster, great instructors. The end of the class is your motorcycle test so that you do not need to take the test with the DMV, just walk in with the card and you get your endorsement.

A couple if my friends (Bob & Jim) teach this class at ACC. I definitely recommend it as a good starting point. If you have questions let me know.

My wife did the ABATE class at Front Range Community college. Took the certificate to the DMV and they gave her the motorcycle endorsement. Simple. And she learned quite a bit too.

I worked for Motorcycle Training Academy, they were supposed to open a Pueblo site but not sure if they did. They teach MSF curriculum, all instructors are screened and well trained. Check them out.

I took the MSF class and highly recommend them. After the class I basically walked into the DMV, gave them my training card, and got my endorsement. The class was good for people with no experience riding and people that just wanted a refresher.

Took the abate class at the arapahoe community college on Easter week end and will highly recommend it. I have been riding on and off for 30 years and passed the license test in Europe 27 years but I still did learn some good tips form these folks.

Just about any motorcycle shop will have course info from multiple providers. Good luck and here are the two most important things to remember about riding motorcycles:

1) Never argue the right of way, they will just say they didn't see you.
2) Never, EVER, let your friend ride your bike. (You will and then you will understand)

A good friend of mine has been running the state sponsored classes for years. Great guy. Last year he got certified in the 'Faster' training on top of the regular gig with a GoldWing! Yes, a track level training course with that big of a bike. This just shows the caliber of trainer he is. That is not where I am saying you will start, he also does the beginner to advanced classes.

If you are interested PM me with you phone #, I will give you a call when I am free.

I think the Harley dealer off county line host that course. My friend a few years ago looked into that class and I want to say it was roughly $250

Good for you! With that said; I rode motorcycles since I was ten. Had dirt bikes, GSXR's, and a couple Harleys. Funny thing; never had the endorsement! Had insurance and even financed my last Harley with out the endorsement. Let's see that is like over 20 years! Good thing I am off of them now.....

Good choice. These bikes when well maintained will run forever. it's the same engine and component as the DL 650. My dl1000 is @ 58K miles and running strong.

Good choice on that as a first bike. You can not go wrong with an SV650. Experts love them and they are very tameable for a new rider. Its a bike you can ride when new and grow with.

If you have not heard about it already, I recommend getting a series of books called "A Twist of the Wrist". There is part 1 and part 2. http://www.amazon.com/Twist-Wrist-Motorcycle-Roadracers-Handbook/dp/0965045013 The books goes into how to ride smooth and practicing good habits.

God... this makes me want to go out and ride my bike. I have an FZR400 with a YZF600r shoe horned into it.

I love love LOVE my SV650N.

Keith Code's Twist of the Wrist books are good. I also like Hough's Proficient Motorcycling.

There's an SV-specific forum, SVRider.com (http://www.svrider.com/forum/forums.php), where I lurk sometimes.

I ride a Gold Wing and take a class about every three years. They remind me to 1. use the clutch in a way you shouldn't in a car, and 2. every time I come out I find that I can pick up a little something that helps me in maneuvering wet, dry, or other. If you ride without your endorsement and crash the bike the insurance company's do not have to pay your claim if you crash or are crashed into no matter how long you have been riding. Take a advanced class on your own bike after a while and do one were they flood the course or do it in the rain. I just came back from Bear Tooth Pass (What a great trip!!)

+1 to all that you said. Excellent books! Great forum!

You are responsible for your own safety on the road. Do what you need to do in order to become proficient. Gee, that sounds familiar to us & firearms training, doesn't it?

Enjoy the ride.

I try not to be a total jerk. Also I am doing my best to be respectful, I just ask that others try their best too. Right now everyone I know hates me for my gun rights issues and on here everyone hates me because I am not lockstep. I grow tired of it all.

I think they will still "have" to pay the claim .. but it will give you ZERO room to negotiate, and they pay bottom dollar.... Also I assume if they "catch you" they might drop ya like a hot rock ....

And you would have to deal with the ticket for no license which could include up to revoking your license for up to 1 year and "mandatory" jail time ( doubtful for a first offense but anything is possible).

Or if you know how to ride.. spend the 15-20 bucks and take the test at the DMV and avoid the whole problem ....

None of this matters if you are talking about your own insurance company. You are covered for what you are covered for, there is no negotiation anyway. If it's not your fault and you are working with another company, whether you had an endorsement or not wouldn't (shouldn't) matter because you would not have contributed to the accident. If the other company is trying to put comparative negligence on you, the no endorsement isn't that great of a bargaining tool as your actions either contributed or they didn't and the endorsement wouldn't change that. Or you could be dealing with Fred Loya and you are screwed either way.

could be ... you are probably correct...

Hense the " I think's and I assumes"

but any which way.. it could be avoided with a quick test at the DMV .. mine took less then 15 mins.

I road with a permit for 7 years. went in to renew it and the lady asked me what the hell this piece of shit thing i had was. My mc permit, 7 YEARS? sorry this one is not getting renewed. here's a temp that expires in 30 days. take the test or you will never receive an MC endorsement. Took it on my brothers 81 yammie 650. Had i known it was that easy, i would have taken it in 74. Then again doing the test with a jockey shift 48 indian wasn't easy to maneuver around cones.

Yeah I bet that would have been a real bitch in the cones section ....

I took my last one on an 86 VFR.... Great bike but the slow speed cones are not it's .. forte ... nearly cost me the test.. oops... ( didn't help I had not ridden much in too many years or ridden that bike much at all )

I say if you have access to one, take the test on a dual sport style bike. They excel at the slow speed stuff can handle the mid speed parts of the test fantastically too.

I should clarify ... I took the courses back in the early 90's in new mexico ... after a long break from riding I had to get my endorsement in colorado rather then drop the coin on a course I'd already had ( tho admittedly like almost 20 years before) I just did the DMV test
