View Full Version : Officially moving to Wyoming
The wife and I have officially decided to move to Cheyenne.
Here are a few reasons why:
no state income tax
no grocery tax
cheaper gas
they respect firearms rights
I already have a job there
I know I'm gonna catch a lot of grief about running away, blah blah blah. But I think it will be better for me and the wife.
I really like Cheyenne and Wyoming in general I'm sure you won't miss the traffic here either. Good luck!
I grew up in Cheyenne. Most of my family is there. If I could get work I would think about going back.
I don't see why anyone would give you grief. You've got very valid reasons for moving there, and I hope it goes smoothly. I've never been to Cheyenne, but I've heard good things about it.
You wo't be too far from Colorado, either! Win-win!

Only thing I'm not crazy about Cheyenne is the winds...

we're not far behind you, but not sure where we are going yet.

Screw that. You're responsibility is to your family. Congratulations on the move!

Nope, I think it's a great idea....unfortunately my wife's job prevents me from doing likewise. Sadly.

never blamed a guy for bettering himself or his family, good luck with the move
Thanks guys. I'll still be on the boards to see how everyone is doing.
Good move just for the taxes alone.

Enjoy! Don't be like another member here who said he was going and never wen't. Gave a lame excuse about never getting permission from the man of the house. Cheers and good luck with your venture! [Beer]

I don't see why anyone would give you grief.
Because some people are simple-minded morons.
Aside from that, sounds like very good reasons. Good luck!

Good luck with the move! Don't be a stranger around the forum!
As others have said: At the end of the day, you gotta do what's right for your family.
We are out of here as soon as I can find a job, we are headed for Kansas.
Hell, I can't find a job HERE, and I damn sure don't want to pack up all the crap in this house and start over somewhere else. But kudos to anyone who CAN get out!
Good luck on the move! Most of my family live in Cheyenne it's a nice place I'm just not a fan of the wind!

I spent a few years in Williston and it wasn't bad. Of course that was after the last oil boom and before the most recent.

After growing up all across the US, I've been in Wyoming the last 8 years or so of my life. I really like it up here, besides the wind and somewhat cold winters. Lived in Loveland for a little while and I really liked it but after what's been going on down in Colorado plus the state income tax thing I don't think I'll ever move back.

The wife and i are wating it out to see how the 2014 elections go here in Colorado, before we try to find a new place to call home.

I have family around Laramie, we looked there but it was too expensive for us. Lots of good hunting around there.

Lived there for a year and work there almost every day. We got tired of the wind and lack of variety from a shopping/bar/restaurant perspective. Good luck with the move.
The bar scene doesn't interest me as I don't drink much, shopping consists of necessary items (wife hates shopping), and so far the restaurants are satisfactory. I will miss Nordy's being close though.

It's only a 45 minutes drive to Loveland when you're hard up for BBQ.

Good for you.

I have looked at half a dozen places up there but haven't quite found the right one as far as being able to run the biz out of.
I am all for staying and seeing 2014 but: A- what else are we going to get crammed up our keesters until then? B- the knuckleheads have stacked the deck well with the bills favoring illegals, redistricting, same day voter registration, civil unions, legal dope etc.
Properties moving fast up there.
Yeah I talked to a realtor. He said houses are selling very fast. Even good rentals are hard to find. We got very lucky.

same plan here. I love my state but at some point enough is enough, so without a major sea change in our politics back to what it was and should be were going to have to hit the road.

That's why I said I'll miss it being close. Cheyenne really doesn't have any good BBQ joints, that I've heard of anyway. I will definetely make the drive to Loveland for some good BBQ though.

Congrats!
Lived 2 yrs in Laramie. Looking at some get away acreage out of Encampment.
Best of luck. [Beer]
The older I get the less I can tolerate the cold. If It wasn't for that I'd be taking a serious look that way.

You've missed the last 2.5 years of BOOM. along with meth, robberies AND the locals now locking their door. Or as my friend said last night. 3 years ago i was the only mexican in williston. Now every lowlife minority has taken all their felonies and dropped them in NoDaker land eh.

It's 30 min to nordy's in old town. 25-14( dial nordy's) to riverside, left on college, pull up in front and grab the To Go bundle. Make it 2 full size platters so you can freeze the left overs.
Or stop by windsor and do dinner.

Lived in Laramie for 5 years - loved it!
The wind doesn't blow in Wyoming, that's just the suction from the growing Liberal population in Colorado. Oh, and all the pot smokers inhaling.

We also are waiting for 2014 election results, only because it will take me that long to finish constructing our current res and recoup my money. If I could get out of it now with a few bucks for stake money we would be in the wind.
Being redneck and insane, we are looking @ northeast Wyo.
Wind is not a real issue as it blows here all the time anyway.

I am applying for jobs in Texas also. Looking to GTFO.
Get the hell on out!
Good luck.. :)
Enjoy the wind....and Freedom!.....
(For now...!)
I would move out of here to, but I don't want to be away from the Mt.
The mountains are not far away. Laramie is just under 40 miles from Cheyenne.
Stone83, I'm pretty sure Wyoming will stay free longer than most other states.

You live in Aurora, pretty flat area around there.

They are. In our neighborhood houses are going up and then under contract within weeks for pretty good asking prices. Weird.
