A South Carolina high school teacher removed from the classroom when he stomped on an American flag while discussing freedom is being paid $85,000 to avoid a legal challenge.
A school spokesman said Compton's lawyers had indicated they would file a complaint in federal court about school officials who sought his dismissal.
WTH! I'd have taken up a collection to go through the legal challenge. Stupid turd should have been fired and sent to Commiepornia where he belongs. Our nation is well and truly screwed in the head when the school system is having to pay a miscreant like that AND he gets to file a complaint against the people who sought to discipline him for violating the US Flag Code.
I think in other parts of the world, you'd get dragged out in the public square and executed for doing something so disgusting.
Here, we lick your asshole for the privilege of not fighting you in court.
And we let people like this teach?

CU would offer him tenure...

Bill "Obama's terrorist buddy" Ayers teaches too... goes to show, I'd rather trust a drug dealer than a teacher.
Anyone know WHY he was stomping on the flag?

He claimed it was something to do with "showing the power of symbols" or somesuch dumb stuff.
Jesus. This reminds me of "The Children's Story" by James Clavell. It's only one small step from destroying a symbol.
I personally hope some good ol boy from SC can demonstrate that flags are not the only things that can be stomped when discussing symbols. [Mad]
Let's not forget how they persecute children that nibble their Pop-Tarts to "look like guns", or go "pow pow" with their fingers while playing Cowboys and Native Americans on the playgrounds. Turds like this get coddled and paid big bucks to "soothe their hurt feelings", while a child with an Oh-My-God real capgun playing in his backyard is liable to be castrated and lobotomized, for his own safety and that of society.

Sounds like that story about the teacher that made his students "stomp on" the name of Jesus. It didn't end as well for that teacher as it did for this one. [facepalm]

I like this idea.

This one not so much.

Does it really matter? Is that appropriate behavior in a classroom?

I am all for respecting the flag as much as the next guy and if I saw this happening in person I would probably put a stop to it but I am sure this case would come down to the issue of the freedom of speech and if the district could fire him or not. I bet they got of on the cheap.

Freedom of speech? If he did it privately, maybe. In the classroom where he's supposed to have an approved syllabus and lesson plan? Not so much. They may have got away cheap but only because our legal system is dorked. Jackass who did this is lucky to still have a job IMO.

He is protected by our laws, too bad one of his students didnt knock him out
double edged sword. beauty of this country for freedom of speech to not get hung right after something like that, but at the same time I almost feel like you should be hung if you stomp on your countrys flag

Since when does freedom of speech only apply if it in private?

This type behavior can/will not be stopped. Another reason to abolish govt education system.
The process is incremental.
Another step on the path...

We all know rights, including free speech, aren't absolute. There are plenty of places where speech isn't protected. If you bad-mouthed your company on company time to a client do you think you'd be protected from being fired by claiming free speech?
Stomping on the US flag in a classroom in front of high school students isn't free speech...it's liberal indoctrination and this "educator" was simply pushing the envelope. He was successful because as a society we're too terribly afraid of what might happen if we fight back against behavior like this. The "victim" teacher runs around yelling "oppression" and hires lawyers to bully the school district into submission.
This has nothing to do with free speech. It has everything to do with advancing a leftist agenda.

Had ward churchill not committed plagiarism in his books, he would have been reinstated at CU. His chickens come home to roost was a loosing battle if they used that only to justify his dismissal.
Yes it's all part of the liberal/ leftist agenda. However until there are strong nominees on the R side of things, don't expect miracles

..and schools being operated by attorneys and "what-if" scenarios (fear) that may never come into existence.
The weak minded will be swayed no matter who teaches them.

But there's a big difference between a 16 year old with little life experience being swayed because he/she doesn't really know any better (and probably isn't getting the education at home from the parents) and an adult buying into the crap that's being taught in schools.

"It is the soldier, not the reporter, Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet, Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the organizer, Who gave us the freedom to demonstrate
It is the soldier, Who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag.
And whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who allows the protester to burn the flag."Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC
Add: It is the soldier, not the teacher that gives teachers the right to stomp on the flag in front of young impressionable children and then get paid out big bucks for doing so....

Exactly. I would have loved to have been a student in that classroom- I would have pulled a Rick Monday... or knocked that teacher out. Either way, I wouldn't be going to that school ever again. [Muaha]

Is there? I had teachers like that at all kinds of ages, but still developed the way I have. I agree that teachers should teach as much as possible with as little opinion as possible.

I think there is. Obviously not everyone is going to react to the information the same way.
