So i was given several large boxes of ammo that someone thought i could use, but i started going through it and its a bunch of junk partially corroded random bullets. Does anybody know how i can safely and legally dispose of this ammo? Its not even worth trying to shoot any of it.

pull bullets, dump oowder in your garden or lawn. Sell pulled bullets to one of us, so we can melt them down and recast.

OR see if anyone who reloads want's to take them off your hands via the pay it forward thread.
Glue them to some wood and make a man cave piece for viewing!

When you say corroded... like unsafe to shoot corroded?
I fire Nazi ammo from 1938 (8x56R) that has brass surface corrosion on it all of the time. one thing you have to remember is that the case is too soft and pliable to do anything more than hold the bullet, primer and powered until you put it in the chamber. When it goes 'BANG' the case is functionally irrelevant. Your bolt and chamber are catching all of the pressures.
There used to be a thread on this, but I can't find it.. When I was a kid I was told to soak the ammo in bleach for a day or two. The sodium hypochlorite will leach past the primer and bullet and interact with the powder and priming compound. Then pull the bullet(s) and dispose of components in the trash.

Run them in a tumbler for 15 min and re evaluate their condition. Yes it is safe factory loaded ammo gets tumbled all the time to give it a uniform look and remove lube.

They may not be unsafe to shoot but a lot are marked the 1930's era. Most have a blue corrosion coming from the brass and a white powdery corrosion growing from the lead tips. It is many different sizes, most of which i have never even heard of so pulling might be kind of difficult since i dont have that many different bullet puller collets. I do reload, and i dont think i would even touch these, but then again i am a pretty picky reloader.

Yeah i guess they would be pretty cool cleaned up and displayed. Don't think im wanting to do that though. Maybe i will put them up in the trading post for free and see if anybody wants them. Thanks for your help.
The best way to dispose of it and what we recommend in class is to bring it to your local police department and they will take care of it safely for you.
