Remember when Part of Paris was closed down... After a soccer championship celebration turned into a riot. Many folks were stuck away from home for overnight. It reminds me of 1998 Broncos riot here in Denver. While many of you have posted bug out bag, I personally more interested in get home bag. I have one in each vehicle and a mini bag in the office.

I have my work BOB with me everyday. A little water, a little food, most everything my other BOB's have. water treatment, two coats, fire starting materials. Goes with me to work and comes home with me. My Travel BOB.

I have the BOB in the trunk, which is basically just a ready to go camping bag. I bring a smaller bag into work with me every day that just has stuff I'd use if I needed to stay the night some where, deodorant, razor, toothbrush, phone charger, check book, HSA card, bandana, knife, contact stuff and glasses, floss, chap stick, flash light, Emergency, and bandaids. I get made fun of for it about as often as I am asked for something out of it.

Absolutely
I was talking with FIL last night over a beer about what constitutes "preparedness," and it got me to thinking about the old cold war and even pre to that disaster preparedness scenarios that the governments (local etc.) had in place. Not just the hear the siren and go to your basement or local bomb shelter, but information about places for law abiding to meet up after the fact as well. What the hell ever happened to any of this?
I think there is a good bit of common ground amongst many of the "experienced advisors," who have served in one form or another in an area where there is either constant unrest or a SHTF scenario concerning the grouping of folks into helpless or the victim class, the lawless (looting, raping, pillaging etc.) and the potentially successful who band together to offer a collective value proposition measured with potential show of force to re-establish some sort of law or at least co-existence minimums.

That said, once again, what happened to community level drives to be prepared to assemble at a location? Sure, like with every SHTF scenario and decision there are logisitical security concerns for doing this, but take the EMP/Compton effect scenario and we suddenly find ourselves void of our usual methods for communication, a community level plan in place for a minimum of assembly seems like a damn stupid thing to have not maintained, or is it just me?

Hi!
No, it's not just you. There's an odd dichotomy that I've been seeing- the perecption of the world to be getting much smaller with the advent of everything online; online communities seem to be replacing the community right outside of our doors. The real world doesn't seem to be 'reality' with a lot of our communities. That's what it seems to me, anyhow.

I've got a Maxpedition Sitka that I keep some basic hand tools in, small toiletries, first aid kit, phone chargers, etc. that I take everywhere. The girls in the office are jealous of the organization it has.

I carry what most do here in a 511 Rush12 pack. I like this one because it has a hydration pouch.

People already have said things to me like, "You're a survivalist right?" It irritates me because I don't portray that at ALL, and the person I am in person, is close to the person I am in the most off topic of threads on here. No politics, no guns, etc. It sure as heck ain't because of that tiny bag I carry around either. Bag is one of these:

I may actually be able to do so. I've got a half day off tomorrow so I can meet the appraiser at 2:30. I was going to go buy some lowers up in Longmont after that, but I may end up having them shipped and can hang around till Bambu time.

I've got a get home bag in the trunk of my car, it moves between cars depending on which one I need to drive that day. Its also got some vehicle stuff in it, but basically I've got:

bright orange flagging tape
paracord
2 lighters and 1 container of around 50 matches - with dryer lint for starting a fire
2 smaller knives: gerber gator, sog multi-tool
large ka-bar "zombie" knife - awesome knife by the way!
1qt of oil
1 large package of dehydrated food - supposedly feeds 4
4 bottles of water
2 long burning candles
toothbrush/toothpaste
pair of shoelaces (which now that I think about it is redundant with the paracord)
carmex
bandaids, neosporin
super glue
2 days worth of dog food (about 5 cups) - bag of treats
dog collar/leash - for catching loose dogs around the neighborhood
2 space blankets - thicker versions that don't rip when you pull them out of the package
10 glow sticks
S&W Model 10 with a little over 100rds of ammo
granola bars
hot cocoa, juice flavored drink mix, emergen'c, pixie sticks...
2 rolls toilet paper

I've been meaning to get a change of clothes in there too, especially socks. But after thinking about it, I might want to tailer it more to everyday items that one would need to get by for a couple of days - except for a shelter that is. All of the above stuff is packed into a LAPG bail out bag, should have got the jumbo size one because this normal size is bulging.

Guess I'll get into the bag, inventory it and find a new list of things to get for it to keep it more up to date.

Recently ran into a problem. Work required me to travel.

I was going to just take a few things out of my BOB as a carry on...so after I'd removed most of it, I realized that I just can't fly with a BOB. My suitcase was already at max weight.

So now my BOB is reduced to a few bucks spent at Walmart. In the camping section.

I think an extra pair of work pants and a shirt would be a good thing to have as well, in case you spill something on your shirt or need to spend the night some where.

Sadly i don't have a BOB unit. Then again the trip from the shop to the house shouldn't require more than 15-20 rounds tops.

We have a few obamanots in the hood. The only community involvement i foresee, is escorting them out of the area on foot. They voted for Hope n Change. I hope they have comfortable shoes for the walk to a new residence..

BuffCyclist. I've also got a get home bag since I work about 25 miles from home. I'm not following the need for dog food, treats, collar and leash. Just curious and interested as maybe I'm missing something obvious.

You know if I get to choose one must have thing out of the get home bag, it is the disinfecting wet wipe. In the short events where I was stuck at certain location due to riot etc.. food/water were not an issue. Smoke, tear gas, small cut and sweat were.

I work 32mi from home and when I drive to campus, its a 65mi drive across the desert, so I too have a long commute.

The dog stuff stems from my love of animals. I often see dogs running around and try my best to call them to me (when they come willingly), the collar/leash is to be able to control them and get them out of harms way and either into my car to drive them to the shelter where they can look for a microchip, or get them to their owners house safely. I've actually used these on 4 dogs in the mountains while driving home from work. 3 of those dogs didn't have collars, but in each case i was able to track down the owner in less than 24hrs by calling the vet in town (the tiny town of 700 people also helps).

The spare dog food/treats is for my dogs. Sometimes we take our two dogs with us on day trips that extend much later than planned and forget to bring food along. This is a rare scenario, and the dog items don't have to be in the get home bag as they could just be in the car. Partly why I need to go through the bag again and update its contents and rethink everything in it.

Ah yes, thanks for reminding me! I also have a tube of WetOnes, one or two small bottles of purel, and a pair of Mechanix work gloves. Which are all very important, especially after changing car tires or moving a deer/animal off the road that you just hit.

I carry an EDC in the form of my Maxpedition Versipack. Basically same items as everyone else: multitool, first aid, tourniquet, isreali bandage, every days stuff like kleenex, and even some very basic shelter/multiuse items like drum liners, a shemague. I even have a single-use particulate face mask with eye shield in case of fire, etc. Ohh and definately several ways to start a fire/purify water. I also typically carry my Baofeng UV-5R for monitoring of the airwaves.

Along with my EDC, all my cars have semi-identical get home bags, plus 72 hours of food, a little more extensive shelter items, extra wool clothes/cotton socks. A few extra rounds for the carry gun. Some containers. All in an assault-pack like you would get issued in the army. The shelter items (wool blanket, mylarized tarp, drum liners, and foam mat for ground cover are rolled up and affixed under the backpack with dog collars. It is a little heavy, I think I have to downsize a little bit or get lighter gear.

Consider something like those cheap draw string backpacks. They take up little room and weight. Cost very little and very versitile.

Game bag. Laundry sack. Water bladder w a trash bag. General goody sack. Carrying extras if you have to abandon a car. Splitting some load or gear. Etc

This reminds me that I need to go through mine again for summer. I have 40 miles and almost 4,000 feet of elevation between my office and my home so I am set up with three days of dehydrated food as well as a small mess kit for cooking. I have some water to start but I keep water purification tablets in my pack, and several water sources along the way. I also keep a pair of hiking boots in my car as well as a thermal hunting suit for the winter (rain gear for the summer). I keep a tarp, rope, and paracord for shelter as well as a small hatchet. I have glow sticks, knives, flash lights, head lamps, and fire starting materials. I have 100rds of 9mm and 10rds of slug, 10rds 00 as well as 10rds of field loads for small game. My current pack doesn't accommodate my clothes so I have my pack, seasonal clothes bag, and soft shotgun case in my trunk.

One thing people forget is that emergencies happen in degrees. It doesn't go from everything's honkey dorey to mad max in 5 minutes. So while technology might be offline, you can still use cash. Keep a couple hundred bucks stashed in your bag, that'll get you a hotel room when credit card verification is down. Or food from a restaurant, etc. It'll take a while of things being really bad before people with normal resources start realizing they want silver.

This is good advice keeping a couple hundreds in your get home bag.

A belt with a zippered compartment with a couple half or quarter eagles and some junk silver helps too.

That's a really great point! Sometimes it's hard to remember that it's not only one way or another.

Yep, couple hundred bucks emergency fund in 20s, copy of your driver license / CCW, spare cell batt/ quick charge are a must in your locked glove compartment. Maybe I ll put them in my bag instead too.

I keep a back country/get home bag in my work vehicle. I also have a small camelback in my truck with a few things and everything else that I would need is already in the truck it just needs put in or strapped to the pack.

The wife has a full BOB in here car with a couple of smaller packs to break things down to essentials for a long walk.

Can you post a link to a pic or a pic to that bag? A bag that can be broken down is very practical in my thoughts.

I think he said that he has a few smaller bags in addition to the large BOB so they can spread the weight out over a few people if needed. Think of those laundry/gym type bags nothing but nylon square with two draw strings for shoulder straps.

Ahh okay. So kinda like how mine is set up with a couple dry bags pre-packed for different scenarios in there so I can offload things like if I am stranded with car and staying with car, etc.
