That's what they do.
Typically, they aren't supposed to hold umbrellas while in uniform because it makes it hard to salute. However, in this case, that might be a good thing. ;)

Of all the things to be upset about this administration and the current state of our country I find this at the bottom of my list.
Uh, so why couldn't he talk in the press room? Oh right, because the rose garden during a rainstorm makes so much more sense. That's a bigger fail here than uselessly having the WH Marines hold umbrellas.

Instead of worrying about what a self-promoting vainglorious no-class punk he is, we should applaud the professionalism of the men who are tagged to do that duty and execute without visible complaint.

Guys, really, I detest Obama as much as anyone on the board but it doesn't take a lot of searching to find pictures of him holding his own umbrella while walking. I question why this press conference had to be held in the Rose Garden during a rainstorm instead of indoors or why some butthead staffer didn't just put up some tarps but it was what it was and the Marines did their duty. A lot of the subsequent responses on this thread are like the idiotic anti-Bush/Reagan photoshopping that the OWS/OFAtards love to do; we're better than that.
I think it's just one more symptom of the rest of his pompous actions. I have the utmost respect for military personnel, and resent the disrespect shown here - no matter how slight.
