I always thought that was cool he had a cigarette lighter installed in his race car.

He hasn't been on the track for some time as far I know, but I've heard he was a pretty cool fella. I know he was one of the few who drove with an open face helmet, like Dale Sr. did.

It is sad indeed that it was self inflicted....wherever his soul is now, I hope it is at peace...and condolences to his family members and close friends.

I was reading an article this evening that he had been suffering from severe and chronic pain.

Las Vegas resident Chuck Trickle, Dick’s brother, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Dick had constant pain in his left breast, which doctors were never able to treat. The Trickle brothers last spoke about a week ago.

“He was very down,” Chuck Trickle told the newspaper. “He more or less said he didn’t know how much longer he could take the pain.”

Kenny Wallace (http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/cup/driver/kenny-wallace/439365), a NASCAR racer and SPEED commentator, was a close friend of Trickle’s and knew he had health issues, but was shocked that he apparently took his own life.

“We talked every month, every two weeks, ever since he retired. We talked a lot about health. He was definitely, I would say, wearing down, but nothing serious … clogged up arteries," he said. "Just some simple things that were just old age.”

But Wallace knew that Trickle’s condition had taken a turn for the worse recently.

“I do know through talking to a close friend of his that he was in a lot of pain in the last three weeks in the chest area,” Wallace said.

I met Dick Trickle in 89 at a race car chassis school (guest speaker) in South Bend, IN, just before he started racing a Cup car full time. He was a neat guy, lot's of great race stories. Had a lot of fun drinking at the bar after classes with him.

I hope he found the peace he was looking for....

You REALLY believe that? If he was in severe pain that was getting worse and the doctors couldn't fix? You think God WANTED him to suffer? I hope you were being facetious.
