Long story short. Had a great aunt that was a farmer pass away an her spouse gave my ole man a model 99 savage. Its a .243 and based off internal wear I would be shocked if its had 2 boxes of shells through it. But it was a behind the seat gun that had been bounced around and my ole man decided he wanted to refinish it. Only problem was he didn't think ahead on how he was going to address the checkering. So it sat for 2 years until a month or so ago and when he was coming to visit I told him to bring it out and I would either get a replacement stock of get the one he had fixed up. Here is a pic of how it looked when I got it.

So I grabbed some cheap stripper from Wally World gave it a good strip and then sanded it out. Fit was terrible in some spots I took off as much as 1/8" to get the fit right.
Here it is after the final sand.

At this point I wasn't sure what direction to go and decided to just pic up a kit while I was at sportsmans. Ended up with this package.

Here it is after the walnut stain was applied. I watered it down a bit to keep it some what light in color.

After that the finish is something that you wipe on with your fingers, let dry, wet sand and reapply. As you do thin coats it slowly fills in. This was after I believe 3 coats or so. As you can see it really develops some good color.

I used the polishing stuff and did 2 coats on it and mounted the stocks back up.

While doing that I put on the limb saver recoil pad.

It needs a the holes bored out so I can move it about a heavy 1/16" to get it lined up perfect. But it is a work in progress. I have a sling stud kit on order, and the plan is to put a nikon prostaff 3X9X40 on it.
Been a fun project so far and Ill update it after the other items are added.
