View Full Version : Hey,,, I wanna rant
So back in April we had a client call and want a service on their trailer.
We don't know them
We pick up trailer find out it has issues, call client, they say OKie DOkie repair.
We repair, they call and say they need it before the weekend, we step it up and get-r-done.
Deliver back
never meet said client in person. Email invoice and call to confirm.
Everything Okie Dokie.
Check is in the mail. 1 week later call no check, sorry check in the mail on Wednesday I wil personally see to it.
That saturday get a call, cients wife says I need an invoice, reply invoice sent via email, resopnse Oh OK will send out check.
Another week no check call client, client becomes Irate, Fuck you check is in mail no other check will be sent you will rip us off I will ruin you blah blah blah,
We put a lock on said trailer where she sits.
NOW ASSHOLE is really pissed, we can't use it tomorrow, will cut it off call the cops.
DUH already did that, waiting on asshole to cut it off as Jeffco sherriff said it is a crime so wait for it,,, wait for it.
We have never in 25 years had an issue with anyone we serviced or reapaired a trailer without seeing them face to face, hell I have several clients I have NEVER met in person but alwaus send the payment the same day.
OK end of rant, anyone I can't meet after repairs from now on done get their steenkin trailer back till I gets da $$$
Having a cold 1 and waiting on said asshole to respond, show up or??? LOL
Put a lien on his trailer title, for the amount of repairs. plus the labor to do paperwork and mileage, etc just in case he does come get it. I'll buy it for what he owes you :-D
A man used to be good for his word. Those days are long gone my friend. Sorry to hear you're going through this nonsense. Hope it all comes out okay.
Yeah I know, leaglly I can pick it up and charge storage here at the shop till he pays.
Just can't stand assholes who don't pay their bills.
We are a cash business, we pay for our materials and supplies as we get them we run NO credit. Makes for a better business and we get better service from our suppliers.
In bygone years, I would have dished out some collection education on him, did it many many x's in the day.
Now i just see what the system will do.
This will be fun to watch. You gotta take pics if its comes to it. Good luck, he deserves what he gets ;)
Charge extra for your wasted time now. They are going to call you a shady business no matter what so you might as well get paid for the bs.

I'm interested if this offer is on the table as well.

Nothing P***es me off more than that "check's in the mail I swear!" BS! Or clients who won't just sack up, answer your call, and be a decent human being. One client owed our company in the thousands of dollars, she'll send all my calls to voicemail. So I went and brought my USB headphones/mic and called her through gmail and *surprise* she picks up the phone and is caught like a deer in the headlights when I "inquire" about payment on the open balance. "Oh, I sent the amount over to A/P you'll hopefully see the check next week". Uh Huh.
I'm surprised he didn't pay you with an EBT card since he thinks he is entitled to your labor.

worst part of running your own business is chasing people down for money.
A person who doesn't pay is not a good customer.
And you are not the first person they have screwed over, letting them complain to their friends just keeps more of those losers away from your business.
My favorite was when you called and called and they finally went "oh, it went out weeks ago, can you wait one more day?" (ok, it's always possible the USPS does lose stuff)
and the next day the check shows up

Late last night, bottom of last email:
"Be a man and do the right thing and take the lock off by 8:00 am tomorrow or it will be cut off!."
Well it's after 8:00, gonna call the facility manager and see is he would mind looking at the trailer and verify if the lock has been removed.
Then proceed as needed.
I don't understand, he told you to be a man and cut the lock?
Also, did the police tell you guys that you couldn't lock the trailer?

The reply: I'll be happy to remove the lock when I have cash in hand for repairs that were completed over a month ago. Checks or credit cards will not be accepted.

No we can lock it, boot it, have it towed. No problem Jeffco sherriff said if HE cut the lock then he commits a crime.

I think he said the Jeffco Sheriff said it was illegal for the customer to cut it off.
And the lock is still in place at this time.
Oh I see, thanks for the clarification. So are you going to be a real man and give away free labor? If so, I've got a few projects in mind.

I am so sick of the increasing amount of "entitled" people running around.
I am so sick of the increasing amount of "entitled" people running around.
When offering first call settlements for minor injuries, we are encouraged to use phrases like, "Due to your injury, you are entitled to a settlement of $XXX.XX" or whatever. I have a harder time with my phrasing because I refuse to use any variation of the word "entitled" in my vocabulary.
What a frustrating, infuriating situation!
Let us know how it turns out!

That guy needs to be a man and pay his obligations. Stupid entitled bastards. The only thing he is entitled to is an ass beating. That's the only thing these idiots understand.
Still waiting, check in the mail, still locked.

Customers can be a real pain. There have been a few that have caused way more stress then any vehicle ever did.
One that always comes to mind happened when I was running a shop up in Lakewood. This ladies S10 Blazer broke down, would not run. Her husband called me (long time customer) and brought it over. Ended up being a fuel pump, so we replaced it. Over a month later (if memory serves it was about three months) he calls again and her car wont run again, but it will fire for a short time if it sits. So he tows it over and I diag it. Fuel pressure regulator gasket in the throttle body failed and it was flooding the engine. I call him back and sell him a throttle body gasket and new regulator. He oks the repair. The day after I finish the repair his wife calls and demands to know why I have been working on her car with out her permission. After all it is her name on the title. She did not authorize the repair.
She comes in, raises hell. Real evil woman quite honestly. Talking to her on the phone would get my blood pressure up like you would not believe. She called me a liar, incompetent (I should have diagnosed the fuel pressure regulator when the fuel pump went out), claims that I am just in the business to take advantage of women (christ I didn't know I had that option) and just plain acts like a bitch.
She tries to say we are braking the law by working on the car with out a signature. I explain that no, under CO law if a vehicle is towed in you can perform repairs with out a signature. And we have record of the phone call. She claims I overcharged her for the repair since she called the dealership and the parts I told her we replaced would not have cost that much (not the right part, but still a difference of 10 bucks). I explain what we did. And why.
This goes on for a week. Finally she and her husband come to pick the car up. He pays for the repair in cash (seriously this is a 250 dollar repair). I think that is the end of it. The husband looks straight up embarrassed the entire time he is there. Strange to see someone that big look sheepish.
A week later we get a certified letter from her demanding we refund the money or she will take us to court. My response was "Bring it bitch, I am willing to die on this hill". The owner caved and cut her a check for the amount of the repair. I would have taken a day off from work to spend in court. I would have spent my own money to hire my own lawyer to fight her. I would really have been willing to spend a grand over 250 bucks. God she pissed me off.
I didn't get pissed being about called incompetent. I am not perfect, and I do make mistakes when working on cars some times. What sent me through the roof was being called a liar and a cheat. I was completely willing to go scorched earth over that.

^^^ Wow.

^^^ Wow.
Just be happy you're not married to her.
After the first aggressive phone call with her I actually hit something. And I do mean that literally. I am a very level headed person for the most part, takes a bit to get me rilled up. I was lit. I had to hit something repeatedly, go for a walk away from the shop before I cooled down enough to trust myself on a car with out breaking something. If I had PTSD, she would have pressed that button.
Wow, this all makes me happy I'm practically retarded when it comes to mechanics. I can change my oil, filters, brakes, alternator and that's about it. I don't know how I would be able to handle terrible customers who are difficult in paying. Glad I'm not in the service industry as I've seen my share of horrid customers in the insurance world- but if you don't pay in this business, we just cancel you. [Coffee]
For instance, had a person call to get a quote on their home, it's somewhere in the 4,000 square foot and in a very nice area (we average to be about $200/sq ft for replacement cost) so it comes in at just over $800K for coverage. She says "Well xxxx company has me insured for $450K! Are you guys trying to rob me!?" I simply said "Ma'am, we estimate the replacement cost based on the size of your house and the cost per square foot to rebuild." Her response: "Well the market sucks, my house is only worth maybe $400,000 right now." "Ma'am, insurance doesn't care what you can sell your house for, it only cares how much it would cost to rebuild if you had a total loss tomorrow." This went on for about 5 min, telling her that she was way underinsured and if we were to write the policy we would have to try to be as accurate as possible as they would send and inspector out to figure out the actual replacement cost. She said that we were terrible at our job and hung up- wasted a 15min phone call on someone that didn't understand, and didn't care to understand. Fine, just trying to educate her so she doesn't get screwed. I really hope the house doesn't burn down, because she could maybe build 2/3s of the house with the coverage she has. And it shows that whoever her agent is figured it would probably cost $500-something to rebuild, and their company offers 120% replacement cost coverage, so he just deducted 20% and called it good. [facepalm]
Sounds to me like that trailer should either be moved to a different location or you should remove the wheels. If he cuts the lock, yeah, he broke the law. But getting anything done about it might be a different story, even FINDING the guy might be tough. I wouldn't expect the Sheriff's office to hurry right over to prosecute some schmuck for stiffing you on a repair bill. He can't cut the lock and take the trailer if it's not where he thinks it is, and if it is there, he can't pull it away without any wheels on it. Cover thy ass as legally as you can. Even though the law is on your side, getting resolution may be tough.
Well now the wife/girlfriend, whomever, is going to meet me and pay up. She has a different last name and is evidently vague to what the dick head has said. Just got off the phone with her, stuck in traffic coming up from the Tech Center so will call when she clears the canyon.
She sounds ok so maybe have a problem resolved... Hopefully.
Have my dash mounted Go-Pro to record any discrepancy.
Maybe he sent her up to try and square the debt in trade? :-)
