I'm skeptical at best- I think someone's guessing
I heard that last night on the news and was wondering about it myself.
This isn't the North shooting site is it?
No, This is west of Ft. Collins..
The north site is west of Lyons,, way south..
I'm sure if one got Lead to it's molten state and dumped on dry grass, it would spark a fire.. Beyond that, I have My doubts..
Now, if somebody was Stupid enough to be shooting tracers, that would be another story...
Try and find a bullet in the forest. For your next exercise, you'll be looking for "bullet fragments" in the forest. Somebody pulled that one out of their ass. I bet dollars to doughnuts that they can't even pinpoint the source of the fire to being manmade, much less "bullet fragments".
I'm sure we shooters will get an opportunity to rebut our conviction by some libtard in the USFS and the MSM with equal time.[Shake]
I guarantee it can happen, because it happened to me. Was shooting pistol at steel on a dry day. After a bit, we started to smell smoke. Fortunately, I had a couple of gallon jugs of water in the truck. We looked all over and couldn't find the source, so we waited for over an hour to make sure whatever was smoldering didn't flare up. Finally doused the area with the water we had and hoped for the best.
Since that day, we always carry water with us if it's dry.
What happened? You smelled smoke and couldn't find anything?
Key word; Steel.. Steel does spark.. Lead alone,, No....
Lead/copper gets really friggin hot when it dumps all its energy into a steel plate.

That can't be as bad as the dowel "thought experiment" of 2008 over at the S&W forum.
