450 Bushmaster

New 450 on it's way. Found dies and once fired brass; however, the Hornady 250gr. Flex Tip bullet is eluding me. Anyone out there find a source for them. Midway says, "coming soon" at their site.

Sources I have found have said that Hornady is busy making LEVERevolution ammo and all the flex tip bullets are being used there. Rumor has had it since the bullet developement that it would be available for reloaders... But I have yet to find any for sale anywhere. I'm not sure it has even been released yet. The only one that has been seen is the 50 cal for muzzle loaders and most places are sold out as well and expansion is supposed to be poor.

Midway lists .458" 325 grain flex tip as coming soon, but lists them in the .452" section. I couldn't find any info from midway for the 250 grain bullets.

They also list loaded ammo but again out of stock, backordered ok.

From Hornady's web site they list .458" 325 grain flex tip coming soon and .452" 250 grain as coming soon as well.

I'm wondering if after seasonal runs to replace hunting ammo stocks they might be available. I would guess that mid-summer at the soonest the bullets would be available at the retail level.

The 450 Bushy was designed around a 250 grain SST Hornady bullet, but can't even find that bullet available either.

Do you have any load data? I know that the 450 Bushy is supposed to push 250 grain bullets at 2200ft/sec but the 458 SOCOM with it's larger case capacity is only getting about 1800ft/sec with thet 250 grain bullets.

From another site, I see that the .452 250gr. FXT, as a component bullet, has yet to be released. On Hornady's site they say 2009.

Here's some H110 data I found. I have not tried these loads so can offer no comment.

H110 is a pistol powder,, Double check that data... Looks very similar to data for the .454 Casull...

And useing the .452 bullet I have to wonder...

For comparison's sake let's look at a similar caliber:

460 S&W:

Case length: 1.79"
Case capacity (H2O) 58.5gr
Bullet diameter: .452

450 Bushmaster:

Case length: 1.70"
Case capacity (H2O) 57.5gr.
Bullet diameter: .452

H110, along with Lil Gun, H4227, AA1680, is listed as a common powder for use in the 460 S&W. Based on the above, I have no problem with the concept of using H110 in the Bushmaster.

However, I am certain that a slower burning powder maybe like H322, IMR3031, etc. will ultimately be a better choice in a 20" barrel. We'll just have to keep watching for data.

Interesting,, I was under the impression that it was suppose to be closer to the .45/70.... In size and power... Utilizing a .458 bullet.. Hmmmm.. I are confused....

If that's the case, Why?

What's the point? And really I don't ask that one much..

From a ..45/70 equivilent down to a .454 equivilent...

Makes no sense too Me.. Maybe I'm not seeing the big picture..
