Before I pester Bert, I thought I would ask in here first.

A friend has a box of AK parts, reported to be complete. He needs "a barrel pressed in"? I know nothing of these fancy machines except for running one a couple times on FA, legally of course. I know nothing much more about it. He said something about it being a kit. I know there are rules and all about parts counts, but no idea what they are specifically.

He's way out in E-Ville so someone on the south side would be best. He's just looking to get it together proper, but as cheaply as possible of course.

If there's questions to be asked, let me know and I'll holler at him.

TIA

Burt has said he won't do them.

Only way to do it cheap is do it yourself.

Take a look at these: http://www.tothtool.com/AK47-Tools_c_1.html

Google "AK 47 kitchen build" The video shows the use of the Toth Tools being used to assemble a kit. Obviously, you will need some help setting the proper headspace, and you will want to make certain that you properly heat treat the receiver.

There are some very good resources here on this board who can give you lots of advice.

First is it a matching number parts kit with the original barrel?
Reason I ask is that with most original barreled parts kits-number matching ie bolt and front trunnion is they are easy to do.
Most of the times you can press them in by using a shop press and and afterwards the headspacing is usualy on the money. But check with a headspace guage BEFORE YOU PRESS THE PIN IN..
Now if it is a kit with a new production barrel it gets trickier,it can be done but if you never done one or not confident of your abilities best off finding someone who can.

You can look on youtube they have some great tutorials on how to do it and show you the tools needed.
I have the toth tool for removing the barrel, but I cant use it to install one once the front trunnion is installed in the receiver, the side pieces clamp on the side of the trunnion for removal but you cant clamp on it once it's in the receiver.

Nope, won't do AK builds.
The few I have done were not economical to either myself nor the customer.

OK.

He has a $99.99 Romy kit in a box from July 2010 with a completely pre-drilled receiver, but the barrel is brand spanking new (US made?) with nothing pressed on, no pin cuts, etc. Forward trunion is already stripped and ready to be riveted to the receiver.

Is there anyone locally that can help get the barrel assembly built if we do the rest of the assembly? He has a well equipped shop, but mostly geared towards autobody and general wrenching.

Allthread and some washers will get the barrel on very easily.
