Maybe you guys are already fully aware of this, but it was news to me. I stumbled upon it.

It sure sounds innocent (and worthless) enough on the surface, but this is one creepy piece of hidden legislation, if I'm reading it correctly.

It's sponsored by Senator/President elect Obama (be sure to look at the co-sponsors of it too (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=s110-2433)), and it looks like it has just been sitting around until the timing is right. From the looks of it, it's not dead, even though it was first introduced in Dec. 2007. In fact, it was revised by Senator Biden in April, 2008. The current status says:

"This bill was considered in committee which has recommended it be considered by the Senate as a whole. Although it has been placed on a calendar of business, the order in which bills are considered and voted on is determined by the majority party leadership."

I first found it here (http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-s2433/text) and wasn't terribly bothered by it until I read that it includes the "Millenium Development Goals" which rang a bell for some reason.

So I looked it up on govtrack and found this. (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=s110-2433)

When you go there and read the "Q&A" (http://www.govtrack.us/users/questions.xpd?topic=bill:s110-2433) you'll find this (in the bottom section), amongst other questions:

Question: What does this legislation say about gun control? Could this be an attempt to legislate gun control without much publicity?

Answer: If passed, this legislation passes the authority to ban small weapons from the US government to the UN. If and when the UN demands enforcement, it would be mandatory for the current President and governing body to enforce it within the US borders. This would stand unless the current wording and intent of the legislation is changed or rejected. [Answer submitted on Nov 3, 2008 6:52 AM]

So this Global Poverty Act has a provision in it which grants the United Nations the power to ban "small weapons" which then gives them the power to demand the US Government to enforce it within US borders??!! How can that work????

And "small weapons" sure seems awfully vague. Who defines "small weapon?" Rifles, shotguns, handguns, swords, knives, sticks, rocks and... See what I mean? This is a stealthy and dangerous piece of legislation for sure.

Doesn't surprise me. Obambi will do just about anything to get his agenda passed...

There will be re-wording. The SCOTUS ruling would kill this instantly. Our own supreme court will have more power than the UN for OUR country. small weapons is a broad term and the lawyers will have a hayday with this as every household has small weapons from the knife set in their kitchen to the screwdrivers around the house.
Think of the TSA...and what they consider a small weapon when you are going through security.

I am sure there are a hundred other bills out there with similar intentions.
