Any one gonna watch? It starts in about an hour and 15. Predictions? I predict NO always online, HEAVY kinect 2 promotion, and forza 5, maybe even a price and release window. And we will see the console and controller. And a blue ray!

I predict that I will have zero interest in any gaming systems from here out, until they can figure out a way to have sensory-input-augmented virtual reality. And accompanying interactive porn. :-)

This. Also the rumor of HAVING to install games to play. I have AT LEAST a terabyte of 360 games, how will they do that?

I just spent almost $1,000 on a new PC, and going, for instance, from Skyrim for 360, to Skyrim for PC (granted starting all over) one thing Xbox can't do: Mods. I'm never going back. Gotta cancel my GameFly today. [Beer]

I've always flip flopped between console and PC gaming. One thing I like about the xbox is it seriously takes effort to cheat. You can't really run additional things. I know you can mod controllers and do things like that but cheating is cut way down.. where on PC games it is very common place (hell I've done it for fun).

I'll end up getting a new xbox when it's released I'm sure, maybe I'll give my current one away depending on backwards compatibility.

I'll continue to run both rigs till one truely is better than the other.

I played a lot of Nintendo, some genesis, then switched to full on PC games growing up. Quake I/II Doom 1-3 team fortress etc. then the next gen consoles came like PS2, Xbox, ps3, and gaming steadily has gone to shit.

By putting so many gaming devices in the households of kids who didn't know any better, the market has become so diluted with shittily made games that there's no reason for the massive companies these days to put out any quality besides the once-every-five graphics eye candy titles. What EA in particular has done has bought out the developers who used to make games for fun, then they point the legal cannons in any way they can at the competition who tries to make something for themselves. I hate consoles for this reason and the kids who play them.

I can't wait to spend an extra $60 a year in order to use the Internet in my Internet ready gaming station! Pay an extra $60 a year to watch my $8 a month Netflix? Fuck yes! Pay an extra $60 a year to play online with my friends? Fuck yes! Pay an extra $60 a month to get all achievements on a game? Fuck yes![hahhah-no]

I'll stick with my Playstation...and wait for the second generation of the console [Coffee]

Not true. Consoles are becoming just as easy to cheat on as PC games. Actually, with moderated servers and the like, cheating on PC is becoming less common. Consoles, however, it's almost every other game on the FPS genre. Since you can't even vote kick people out of games, forget it.

Then there's the problems with Peer-2-Peer connections...with how close consoles are to low end PC's these days, there's NO REASON for this P2P bullshit! GIVE US DEDICATED SERVERS YOU ASSHOLES!

That said, it's much cheaper to get a console than a gaming PC which won't run games in 2 years. I love my PC and would really like to get a new one to play new games, but I just can't afford it.

I still haven't forgiven EA for spending all their time going after competition with their lawyers instead of using them for good- Like getting a non-shit MLB game released instead of letting 2K (aka 2Krappy, Take-Two Interactive) sports get the MLB license- last good baseball game I played was MVP Baseball 2005 (the one with ManRam on the cover), and it was for the original Xbox... Tried the MLB 2K series and I almost wanted to club a baby seal it was so awful. /rant. EA can suck it.

It's funny, but there really is a direct correlation between obama being elected twice and the state of shitty video games. Greed on the part of "producers" and stupidity/ignorance/no education on the part of the consumer/voters.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_4:_Forward_Unto_Dawn
It's on NetFlix... a web series, but I might check it out, but seems pretty cool while we wait. Ever since the movie got cancelled (Peter Jackson was set to direct- Can you say "Epic" in your best Master Chief voice?).

Halo is running the risk of ending up like Final Fantasy- AKA- Another dead horse for the gaming world. Seriously, there must be 20+ FF games out there (although they call the latest 13, there are many more than that). I get it, Halo is popular, the concept is fantastic, but seriously, go too far and you run the risk of losing originality- I hope the next gen does it right and keeps it fresh... They could learn from one of my favorite series, the Elder Scrolls, they're gearing up for ES-Online, and I hope that they make a 6th game in the series, the mod community for Morrowind (the 3rd game in the series) is still going strong after 11 years. That's doing it right.

*Cough cough* 14, actually, the MMO they screwed up and are about to release a whole new version of :P lol.

But yeah, imo Halo has an interesting storyline but the gameplay is very meh/annoying, and old-school FF games were more fun than the new ones.

Agreed. FF7 only made sense with all the extra crap they put out to explain it. Part of it is bad translation and rushed port to America, but still. FF8 was annoying, FF9 was really good, but frustrating.

Enjoying playing video games doesn't necessarily equate to not having a life otherwise. I rather enjoy my life and I'm a HUGE Call of Duty series fan. For those who think you need to be with your significant other 24/7 your relationship won't last very long.

Off topic bullshit aside, this console will be amazing. Not just for game players but for entertainment as a whole. The transition from TV to music to games to web browsing and to social media was SO fast and seamless Looks like the gaming industry will once again be driving technology as a whole. People bitch about gaming but don't realize that our current technology would be at least 10 years behind if it wasn't for the gaming industry driving it. Before you try to act cool by saying that you wish technology was 10 years behind don't forget what we used to pay for inferior technology as well. I'm excited for the new console and the advancement it will usher in for future technologies.

My understanding is the online thing is a big feature indeed, but may not be *required* per say. It sounds like it's more or less up to the individual developers whether they require it or not (so, I'm guessing Ubisoft will have online everything, even first-person-only games, as a sort of DRM scheme ><).

As to the console itself, I'm hopeful. Seems rather gimmicky, but advances in technology are always cool (see all the neat stuff people are doing with the Kinect apart from gaming).

Lack of backwards compatibility sucks :/

It's all about how bad ass your internet is for on-line play. Crappy internet = crappy in-game results. Those bastiches at Treyarch are greedy. They spent money on big $$$ actors for a zombies game mode and cool "Replacers" commercials promoting the game rather than giving us dedicated servers. EA has had dedicated servers for Battlefield for a long time and I have NEVER had a problem playing Battlefield in regards to lag compensation. I think Battlefield 4 will be getting my money. Sad, considering CoD has the largest following of any damn video game I've ever seen. You could literally crap in a box, paint it green, put a CoD logo on the side of it and call it Call of Duty Doodie and people will buy it. They need to can Treyarch and Infinity Ward, give it to someone who gives 2 shits about what the gamers want and not what they THINK we want. Jackholes.

When there are games like Arma 3 on the way, and free mods for dirt-cheap old titles like Project Reality for BF2 or Day Z for Arma 2, console shooters just become laughable to me. And anything that's multiplatform is so ridiculously superior on PC that it ruins the console experience (BF3, for example, is literally unplayable on console for me). I ended up selling my PS3 and XBOX 360 because they had nothing to offer me. But the CoD/Halo/Gears crowd can at least make a stand for multiplayer console gaming.

Campaign/single player games on PC are where it becomes embarrassingly lopsided. Play Skyrim with some texture and skin mods, or try out Amnesia and it'll really put things in perspective.

Microsoft's gaming division isn't going to get a dime more of my money (and I won't buy any of their computing services/goods until they make another proper OS. Windows 8...what the f*ck is this?! Okay, I'm rambling), and neither are any of the studios who decide to take the CoD route and just release map packs and skins as new games for full price. It's really kind of funny watching console gaming surpass PC gaming, then immediately sh*t all over its constituency.

Good. I'm SO sick of boosters and cheaters and they all use 1 month gold accounts to make throw away accounts. This will be virtually eliminated by this move.
-HDD is not replaceable so if it breaks you're SOL
I currently own & use 4 Xboxes including one that is still from launch day and have never had a single HDD issue.
-All games must be installed on the HDD
Good. This cuts down on noise, heat and load times. This is a good thing and not a bad thing.
-Requires extra peripherals to use the TV feature
You mean like a cable subscription and a cable tuner? Duh.

Responses in quote above. Basically people are trying to make big deals out of nothing as usual. We don't even know the full details and the interwebs is running crazy with conjecture and hearsay. At launch day if there are some crazy messed up things I will not buy one. Simple as that. As of now I have heard nothing that makes me not want to buy at least one to play next gen games on.

Meh, dedicated servers aren't all they're cracked up to be. There are downsides to them as well. Your statement about bad ass online connection couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, with 'lag compensation' you get unfair advantages for having a shitty connection and the new way to cheat is to run torrents or otherwise limit your bandwidth to get lag compensation on your side. Host advantage is a thing of the past and being host actually hurts you. Crappy internet = better lag compensation than those with high-end connections. This is quite frustrating to those who pay more for higher bandwidth when someone stealing McDonald's WiFi has a 'better' connection. Search YouTube, plenty of video about this and it's the single biggest problem with this game. They next thing is matchmaking, host selection and host migration. If they're so sure of their lag compensation feature they need to select host based on how many times the person has quit out of games. I play with a pretty solid squad and rather than give hose to the best connection like they used to they lean on lag compensation and give host to the shitty players. When our team starts winning good players start quitting out one by one so we end up waiting about 3-4 times every stinking game for host migrations until one of us finally gets it so as they back out the game continues. A large portion of the time the game drops entirely which is frustrating as all get out. Also, being throw into a game where you have zero possible chance of winning (mathematically impossible) when you're on a win streak is idiotic and should never happen. Also easily fixed. Treyarch sucks giant donkey balls for countless reasons but giving an advantage to those who play a lot or have a good connection isn't one of them. In fact, the more you play the more you realize how much Treyarch actually favors the new or casual player with a shitty barely-there connection.

Ah its 50 something I'll need to measure it but it cost me only $800 bucks three years ago on black friday. I know I can use my remote but it all seems kinect this and grab and stretch/voice control that. I just want good games.

So say i come up with a spare $800 bucks. How good of a gaming PC can I build/buy? It HAS to hook up to my TV. And use a console style controller.

-No ability to lend or borrow games without purchasing a full registration ($60+)
-Charging full retail price for serial keys/authorization codes
Good. I'm SO sick of boosters and cheaters and they all use 1 month gold accounts to make throw away accounts. This will be virtually eliminated by this move.
You don't play used games or do the gamefly/redbox rental deal? You're in the minority. Gamestop will probably lose out a lot from this deal as well.

So Jer, if I'm understanding you correctly, you are supportive of hardware and firmware that eliminates you from using your system in the event your internet goes out, or borrowing a game like The Last of Us or L.A. Noire from your buddy if you want a quiet weekend in? You also like the idea that if you decide to give a new FPS a try, you'll have to shell out $60+ non-refundable, even if it's a shambles. You don't want the ability to play any of the EXCELLENT games from the last generation, offline or on, and you don't have any problem with the advent of losing your hundreds of dollars worth of media during a power surge/freeze during loading/etc. because it hasn't happened before; therefore it can't and never will happen (so who needs the ability to back stuff up?)

Well, each to their own, I suppose.

I think Tim (link below) provides some good points on the whole "used" part of it. Yeah I can see lending games as potentially troubling, but since I don't really have any friends to borrow from, wouldn't be an issue for me.

http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/20130522 the second thread (the first is also interesting summary of the event).

I don't buy used games. I've never been into a GameStop. I don't care to be honest. What I do care about is my gaming experience and those who make temporary accounts to cheat and boost ruin the game for me and others who do care. This move isn't ideal I agree but at least M$ is doing something about it. I have a hard time believing that someone is willing to pay $60 for a game, $20 for a 3 month Gold account all to boost their actual account. As it is now they get a 1 month promotional code from someone (they only apply to new accounts so most throw them away) and then create a throw away account in a few minutes and use it to boost their other account using another friend. Easy to do now because you're out what... the remainder of your Gold account which could amount to $5-$10 in most cases? Now if the price to cheat is approaching $100 people will think twice. I like this. If it makes my gaming experience better... I like this. I can't stand those who cheat in video games.

BTW, I just realized that my post on page 1 was the wrong video and just repeated the video someone else posted earlier. I edited that post and here's the relevant video I meant to post:

Is cheating really that bad that something drastic needs to be done about it? I've run into boosters in COD before, but it's not like a regular occurrence. I guess, Jer, you're one of the few that doesn't shop Gamestop and doesn't rent games... but I liken this idea to Fudds- you don't care what they do because you don't buy used games/rent, but what about those that do, they're getting screwed in this deal... Think about it.

I have thought about it & cheating affects ME directly so that's not even close to the same thing. I actually try to keep high stats so getting screwed in a game even if it's not every other game affects my personal enjoyment of the video game. I wasn't aware your idea of fun trumped my idea of fun. I'll take that into consideration next time.

OpFlash and Arma were cool games, but they were so demanding of hardware and had such a high learning curve that only hardcore niche players would play it after ONE week, and they formed obsessed clubs that required moms-basement level of commitment that all but guaranteed player levels game wide of less than 100 people.

coming in at the end here, but when I was playing a lot of mw2, i thought sometimes I would run into somebody cheating, but could never really tell 100%....

how do you actually see it during game play? aside form the obvious stuff like dude gets 30 kills on one player or something...

30 and 15 is not uncommon for me. And I'm an average player. You will see cheating with glitches and hacks, if you get killed by a tomahawk through the wall at 50 paces, its a glitch or hack. I have also followed boosters into other games and just screw up thier mojo. I'm an honest player, I earned my gamerscore, never glitched, boosted or otherwise cheated. So about that gaming PC.......?

I disagree. I've played on teams that had host, did not experience lag and we dominated. To the point you mentioned - the other team quit altogether. I play BF 3 on EA's dedicated servers - NO lag issues and the game runs smooth as silk. My internet is 1 rung above crap and every f**king time I am on the opposite team (who doesn't have host), I get destroyed. Treyarch could clean this up and make the game more enjoyable but they refuse to believe there is a problem. Again, the new CoD won't be getting my $$$ unless they fix this crap. The game is nothing more than an arcade shooter. Hopefully they're done re-inventing the wheel and give us something relatively new.

Don't take my word for it, do some searching online and you will see plenty of discussion and video backing me up from those with the technical data and broken down code to back up what I've experienced in my (way too much) playing of this game.

I cashed out years ago. Once MW2 came out and I was getting schwacked by 19th century sawed-off scatterguns from 200 meters and dying from acute blood loss after a knife slashed my calf, I decided it was time to call it quits.
