View Full Version : Domestic Terror: Can It Happen To You?

I just got the mail from the post office. Yes, I was curious what my wife would be receiving in a plain brown envelope, obviously designed to give no clue whatsoever as to the contents. In direct violation of FEDERAL POSTAL REGULATIONS (but knowing Big Sis would overlook that minor infraction) I opened the package. Inside was a brand new Presto Pressure Cooker SEALING RING and OVERPRESSURE PLUG. I'm afraid of the potential bad that could come from this. Obviously these parts serve only one purpoase...to make the pressure cooker, an inherently dangerous item as it is, work as efficient as possible without regard to any negative ramifications or consequences a properly functioning pressure cooker implies.

She was able to order these items over the internet with no government oversight or BACKGROUND CHECK. It was shipped right to our PO Box, no questions asked. "Got a credit card? No problem! We'll ship these potential weapon-enhancing goodies out to you right away." That seems to be the attitude of the unscrupulous pressure cooker parts vendors who are NOT EVEN FEDERALLY LICENSED. Basically anyone can get these parts regardless of their background.

Me: "Hey, Sweetie. Why do you need these things?"
Her: "Oh, I plan on making something and I need the pressure cooker to work right."

Yeah...I bet you do. After that little exchange I knew something dark was growing in her heart. It's taken me all these years to finally realize it.

Look at the instructions. It's a virtual step-by-step guide on how to make her pressure cooker "perform" as efficiently as possible. My God! Why do we allow this?

We have to DO SOMETHING to stop this. My next call is to DHS. All I can say, guys...pay attention to what your wife is doing.

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!

Ban brown envelopes and pressure cookers.

Domestic terror is when your wife says.... "Honey.... I think I might be a little late".

I wouldn't do anything. You might wake up one morning with that huge o-ring tied around your family jewels...

Aren't the sealing rings pictured illegal in Colorado? My friend had some of those but he sold them to an out-of-state buyer before the law took effect.

[panic] Think 'bout the chirrrens!!!

So uh, question, as I've never experienced it, is cooking with a pressure cooker any good? How's the food taste? Better? Different? Seriously, for my age, the only exposure I've had to these marvels of culinary technology was in Afghanistan, if it weren't for deployment I probably wouldn't have ever seen one IRL.

Well that would make it even scarier.

When I was about 13, I went rabbit hunting and got a big old jack rabbit. They were pretty rare in S.E. Iowa and I figured it was just one really large cotton tail. My mom said that it be tough eating unless she prepared him/her in the pressure cooker. She did the pressure cooker method for hours and it was still like eating a gob of rubber bands. That cooker didn't do much for that rabbit.[blaster]

I couldn't vouch for taste, but pressure cooking is supposed to keep the nutrients locked into the food better. Supposedly steaming/cooking allows beneficial stuff to escape in the vapor? If it's anything like a crock pot, I'll pass. I don't like my meat to taste like potatoes and carrots. They do make a dandy autoclave if you need to sterilize medical instruments, but I doubt I'm going to find a use for that any time soon.

Broasted chicken is a privilege, not a right.

I fear that our wives may be part of the same cell. Mine recently came home with a used pressure cooker from the flea market. It is certainly untraceable. She couldn't even tell me who owned it previously, and receipt? Forget it. I'm keeping an eye on her, but I'm a little scared.

Is there a reward for reporting your wife's pressure cooker?

Yeah - no more steamed veggies, and pot roast that tastes like carrots. :-)

Pot Roast is the poor man's meat

Ask me how I know.

It is our RIGHT to own pressure cookers and pressure cooker accessories! We should not be denied our ability to cook dried beans quickly, to cook freezer-burned meats with no noticeable taste difference, or canning delicious vegetables, jams, jellies and meat. We stand as ONE! WE ARE UNITED!!!

(Although I would not use one to cook jackrabbit. The only reliable way to cook a jackrabbit involves a stick and a campfire. And you need strong teeth.)

Tell Mrs. Bailey Guns that she can also procure those items at Ace Hardware.

Broasted chicken is a privilege, not a right.

Does that bring back memories.[Coffee]

Many things are better pressure cooked. How do you think KFC and the above "Broasted" chicken are done? Pressure cooking a pot roast cuts the time to min instead of hours. Dry beans get soft throughout and stay in one piece.

Like canning pressure cooking is almost a lost art.
