LONGMONT, Colo. - A Longmont Police officer pulling over a man driving without his headlights Wednesday morning suddenly ended up in a shootout.
Longmont Police said the officer pulled the driver over at the Harvest Junction North Shopping Center on Ken Pratt Boulevard around 2:15 a.m.
"Immediately after stopping, the suspect exited his vehicle, advanced on the officer and began firing multiple rounds at the officer with an AR15-style rifle," police said in a news release.
The officer said he got out of his car and returned fire.
The officer was not hurt, but the suspect was hit at least three times.
Police said the suspect is a 28-year-old man from Longmont, but they did not release the man's name. He is in critical condition, police said.
The Longmont officer, per city policy, is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation by the Boulder County Investigations Team and the Longmont Police Department.

They were passed, but until July 1 these common sense gun measures won't have any effect. After July 1 we should see an immediate drop in crime rate, and incidents like these will cease......

Sounds like one of those gang initiations from the 90's. If the guy can't hit somebody at that distance with an AR, he probably isn't ex-military.

Actually, I heard that the guy that was shot was an innocent bystander, and the gun was walking around and shooting people by itself...
That said, if you want to commit suicide, do it at home, don't involve the cops!

That's twice recently where guys have been stopped for traffic and got out of their cars with an AR. I think the other was near Cleveland? Both times the officers armed with handguns prevailed.

Glad the officer wasn't hurt. He was lucky that the criminal was a shitty shot. Unfortunately, this will just add more fuel to the Dems misguided ideas.

That's not possible. An AR-15 Military style fully automatic assault rifle with a shoulder thingy that goes up is inherently more accurate, deadly, and practically kills on its own with an unlimited supply of bullets from its soon to be illegal ultra high capacity clip magazine bullet thingy.
P.S. betch those officers had more than a 10 or 15 round magazine. But hey, if you can't suppress an aggressor with 7 rounds, you have no right to be killing deer.

I don't want to turn this into a political debate. I am glad the officer is okay and I am very curious to see what further details there are regarding this. I have to say though, come July 1, if this happens more, we won't be waiving our fingers in the Dems faces...the Dems will make more legislation stating, "See, the only way to make you safe is to get all these weapons off the street, we need more laws."
