Looks like National Park CCW in Colorado ( and most states ) is going to be legal in about 30 days.

Not everyone seems pleased by this ruling...
A group representing park rangers, retirees and conservation organizations said the rule change will lead to confusion for visitors, rangers and other law enforcement agencies.
“Once again, political leaders in the Bush administration have ignored the preferences of the American public by succumbing to political pressure, in this case generated by the National Rifle Association,” said Bill Wade, president of the Coalition of National Park Service Retirees.
“This regulation will put visitors, employees and precious resources of the National Park System at risk. We will do everything possible to overturn it and return to a commonsense approach to guns in national parks that has been working for decades,” Wade said.
The park rule will be published in the Federal Register early next week and take effect 30 days later, well before Obama takes office Jan. 20.
Overturning the rule could take months or even years, since it would require the new administration to restart the lengthy rule-making process.
Nick Shapiro, a spokesman for President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team, said no decision had been made on the gun rule.
“President-elect Obama will review all eleventhhour regulations and will address them once he is president,” he said.
//Bold format added by me. I just like that they use the same words in their vocabulary every time. Commonsense? By who's standard?

Thanks for the post. It will be nice to walk the trails in RMNP and feel ... protected!

Wow! I can protect my family? What a concept. One of the many reasons I don't take my family to RMNP and we live 1/2 from there.
A step in the right direction, excellent.
I hope this is the last we hear about this, cause now THIS law will "work for decades". Groups opposed to this will feel pretty stupid in about 5 years when nothing significant comes of this except for families having the right to defend themselves.
great news. I hope the messiah doesn't try to overturn this...he told field and stream he was all about the outdoorsmen and their traditions and being protected, so he better leave this one alone!
The Messiah is not going to take away our guns... He SUPPORTS the Second Amendment... with some minor revisions... [NoEvil] I believe this... when monkeys fly out my ass. We are in for a long tough haul. Our individual rights will be nibbled away.

For the record the prohibition of carrying firearms in a national park has nothing to do with self defense. It was created because of a*holes that poach.
Thanks to unethical hunters we had the prohibition in the first place. Glad to see it change I have been watching this for some time.

I could see this very easily. the liberals/PETA type that enjoy the hike and scenery and generally nothing happens to them but blow it off when one of their own is mauled by a bear or cougar.
Then they go insane when someone kills the cougar or bear when it came after them or their dog or child etc.
I do a lot of hunting and I have heard plenty of stories of people seeing a mountain lion and just shooting it because they wanted to kill it but claiming they were being stalked. I always tell them: "no way in hell will you know if you are being stalked by a mountain lion...you would be dead before you knew it" only way you know if a mountain lion is stalking you is either your buddy sees it sneaking up on you, or he makes a bad grab and doesn't instantly kill you by snapping your neck in his jaws.
Or when sampson the monster bull elk was poached in estes...only for the rack. that made me sick. I enjoy watching the animals as much as I enjoy hunting them and for someone to shoot a damn pet in the middle of the park...its a wonder we are getting this right back.
Hopefully nobody screws it up too bad. I am sure there will be issues along the way but hopefully nothing bad enough to cause us major damage and reverse the issue. then again, who knows what BHO will do in his 11th hour...[Help]
The UN issue concerns me and I don't know what kind of power the constitution and the amendments will have on any power the UN can have over the country if in fact obama takes part in it...
I am just happy we are getting the rights we are, the ruling we received from SCOTUS (which I hope stands for generations to come).
The thing I would like to see changed the most is the 1986 ban...if you can own a weapon made before then, why can't you own a new one. I would like to see this challenged in court. In the end, they are the exact same thing, but yet one is allowed while another is not. I see no point in that other than it will eventually kill off the existing firearms through wear, death or destruction. slowly but surely they will die off. I want to see that changed.

I would say if you want to enjoy this new ruling, get out to your local National Park soon because I don't think for a minute the ruling won't be reversed soon.

As I posted on the AR15.com forum, while the 'legality' of carrying can be bandied about for years on end, if you have a CCW permit and indeed keep your weapon concealed, who the hell would know otherwise...until such time that you did have to brandish the weapon (which we all hope never happens, but occasionally does).
I am glad that some common sense is coming to the DOI, but am also thinking that this may be a 'temporary' situation to the liberals consume the executive, legislative & judiciary branches of the Federal Gov't...:S

Funny, these are the same things we often wonder/say about the dumbshits who want to pass these laws in the first place. It also kills me to think that the reason for the laws was to stop poaching, ummm arn't poachers already breaking the law?

Judge Blocks Rule Permitting Concealed Guns In U.S. Parks

A federal judge yesterday blocked a last-minute rule enacted by President George W. Bush allowing visitors to national parks to carry concealed weapons.
U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly issued a preliminary injunction in a lawsuit brought by gun-control advocates and environmental groups. The Justice Department had sought to block the injunction against the controversial rule.

Oh, he fully supports it. It's just that you shouldn't be allowed to own the ammunition that goes in them. It's not guns that kill people. It's those darn bullets.

Yeah, the anti-gunners have scored another hit; them, and the liberal court system.

Not so fast fellas. Consider what this guy says for a moment.
This is a temporary stop-gap measure at best. Actually, the Judge is pretty conservative and may be a blessing in disguise, she will actually require the Brady Bunch and other parties to the suit to actually produe results.
BTW, a full Environmental Impact Statement is not required, a preliminary Enivironmental Assesment can be done to determine if a full EIS is warranted. The scope of the suit presumes two "possibles", lead bearing ammuntion will be fired haphazardly and in sufficient quantity to pose a hazard, and that wildlife will be impacted by poaching by legal permit holders.
It will be a hoot to see the Brady wingnuts try to come up with supporting data for this. This willl probably be shut down by the energy industry due to lead in National Parks being from coal fired power plants, and not from possible ammunition contamination.

I understand that *right now* it's only an injuction to stop allowing folks to carry and not a total overturn of the approval, but... this injunction does currently prohibit anyone from carrying and that makes it a win (even if it's temporary) for the anti-gunners.
Evan if this judge tends to be moe conservative in her rulings, the standard approach in our courts today to to rule in favor of caution, not common sense or Constitutional rights.
I see this ability going away permanently. Maybe not from this contest, but soon enough.
ugh, bad news.
I was in Utah this week and carried the hell out of my G19. I avoided the Nat. Parks but i would have gone in them if needed. Fuck this bureaucracy.

Im curious to know who all is currently waiting for their CCW and how long it has been since you turned in the application. Im on day 73 since turning in the application. They have not rejected my fingerprints yet. I turned in the application on May 21st, OSBI cashed the money (http://www.botmasternet.com/) order May 29th. Some people have claimed the time flies while waiting... but this seems to be the longest 73 days of my life

About a month ago we had folks on this site reporting 93 day periods before they recieved their CCW. Lots and lots of requests being made out there and CBI isn't manned for this level of activity.

MagicOPromotion,
Since this is May 25th how could OSBI have cashed your MO on May 29th?

But if they hired people to meet the higher demand, wouldn't that employ people who are unemployed when the unemployment rate is so freakin' high, and lower the wait time?
....oh wait, that makes too much sense.

I agree, but the State has to have money to hire more staff.

Talked with the guy who is in charge of the rangers in this region of the Park Service down at the NPS building on Alameda. He is anti! He is also a gun guy. Kind of weird?? We talk often about this topic. I always throw the .....gun laws only apply to law abiding people so your old ban was useless! With a little.....wouldn't you feel better about scraping up the remains of the bad guy(s) instead of the good guy(s)? Hes got nothing to say but....."I feel bad about our rangers having to interpret the law". In a way he's got a point. The law is so confusing for them (NPS) to figure out. If they have to mimic the state that the park lies in then it can/could be difficult for parks that border or straddle two or more states. Still a win in my book!
