View Full Version : Coyotes everywhere
Hi Guys,
I need some advice. We live in south Larimer County on acreage and have coyotes all over the place. I see them in the day and hear them every night. There is a subdivision in 1 direction and lots of open space in another.
I have a small animal permit - so am I good to shoot coyotes? If so what the hell do I do with the remains - drag it someplace inconspicious and let nature take over, bury it, leave it where it drops?
The damn things are getting braver by the day - there's a fair amount of prairie dogs around too (some on private land and I haven't talked with that owner to get shooting permission) I do drop some that are in public land.
Suggestions?
Thanks

invite me and 1 or 2 other local (noco) shooters who have suppressors. i can drop them with a suppressed .223 or .22mag in close w/out worrying about an OOPS into someones house. or the unwanted prying of a neighbor wondering what that noise is.
I'm not concerned about the noise. My suppressor papers should be here in a couple more weeks My concern is what to do with the dead animal.

Don't worry, the crows and other 'yotes will make short work of him. Generally >24hrs.

so the suttle hint of some shooters joining you is a no go then.
leave them the birds of prey will enjoy the meal. hopefully what you use on them will fragment enough to not harm the owls, hawks, and eagles.
Jim,
I got the hint - you didn't answer my question, so I figured I'd return the favor on your hint. [ROFL1]
I'll let you know the next time I plan to go out and shoot - I'd appreciate the company, I'm sure you can teach me a lot.

i think there's a bounty on them. $5-10 a pelt. i will check with DOW on it this week.

last year we were getting 25-50 for them from a fur trader in sterling. pretty sure the economy will drive down the prices they are buying them for becaue not as many people can afford fur coats!

If you can get them close - say inside 50 yds - gut shoot them with a .17 HMR. Won't drop them on the spot, but they'll run away and croak somewhere away from your property. My brother lives in Arizona and has some pretty bold coyotes that look over his retaining wall into the pool/yard area where his dogs hang out. He has effectively reduced the yotes on his property with the above approach.

This is what gives hunters a bad name. I've got nothing against shooting coyotes and do it myself, but do it humanely - one shot immediate kills.

absolutely hunting something take it down humanely. whether it be that trophy you've seen for the past 3 years but have'nt been close enought to. or the lowly ground rat. do it right or don't pull the trigger.
