Ok so those of you that run a gun store or can shed some light on the subject chime in. I recently bought a Rifle and took it out to the range and it has issues. When I rack a cartridge in the chamber it's sometimes almost impossible to close the bolt. I mean the only way you can close it is if you are violent with it. So I took it in and he said he thought it just needed broke in.
(The bolt, which i believe it's more than that) so according to him either I try to break it in or send it back. Not ever dealing with this kind of issue, is that the case with a new gun? They can't just give me another? Sorry if that is a newb question but never had to deal with this.

You should never have to force the bolt closed, and in doing so you put yourself at risk for a serious malfunction. The action should be smooth. You either have an ammo problem or a firearm problem.
1. What type of firearm?
2. What type of ammo?

It's a Remington 700 .300 win mag. I have tried two different types of ammo Remington & Winchester and same scenario on each.

What gun store did you buy it from? That sounds completely unsafe.
If they won't try another bolt and/or check the headpacing for you, send it back.

Sportsmans is where I bought it. I will be taking it back this week. It's just frustrating because it'll prob be a while until I get it back. But I want it to be right and hopefully it'll be back in time for Elk season. :(
If they won't try another bolt and/or check the headpacing for you, send it back.
Agreed. I had this issue once with BVAC ammo in a .308, but mine was definitely ammo related. They replaced the whole case, free shipping too.
Did you clean the chamber with a good solvent? I have seen Remmy's with very thick coatings have the same issue.
A factory gun with factory ammo should not have to be forced unless something is wrong.

I did. I cleaned it really good, shined a bore light and it still had the issue.
Is it a new rifle ?
Your transferring a federally regulated seriel numbered item , its not as simple as taking your t shirt back because you got the wrong size . Once you do the transfer it's yours .
The manufacturers have al ,l as far as I know , taken all warranty repairs back in house so you have to send it back to them for repair under warranty .
From another forum:
The extractor may be too far onto the bolt face. If you look at the extractor hook itself you will see it is beveled. As the bolt closes the case slides down the bevel and pushes the extractor outward, it then pops back out to engage the case rim.
Sometimes the extractor comes too far out and blocks the cartridge. if you look at the bolt face from the front you might see the top of extractor where it is flat. The case can get hung up on the flat surface instead of sliding down the bevel. Use some solvent and clean the extractor, it may take some work if there are brass shavings.
Also check the ejector, that is the plunger in the bolt face itself. Take a punch or other tool and push in on the ejector, it should become flush with the bolt face then come back up when the tool is removed.
Turned out to be something stuck behind the ejector.
Take it to a gunsmith tha4 can check the headspaceing and the rest of it.
sounds like a headspaceing issue

call the manufacturer and get a return authorization, many even send you a shipping label (i.e. they pay for shipping both ways)
but yes, that's the way all guns work. if it doesn't work, it goes back to the manufacturer not the retailer.

Using all factory loads and NOT reloads?? Sure does sound like HS problem.

No reloads. Gun is off to Remington ;( so hopefully I'll have a better working gun.
Sportsman's policy is firearm sales are final at least in Grand Junction anyway. The only way to get satisfaction is thru the manufacturer. Best case scenario is that Sportsman's Warehouse takes care of the warranty issue. Buddies rifle had the same issue. His was a head space issue.
Try loosening the action screws and then retightening to 40 in-lbs.

Sportsmans will send It back for free if it's within a certain timeframe( 30days)
When I worked there, I would say 5:10000 firearms would come back due to manufactures defects.
Remington isn't the Remington they use to be, I personally had to send a few 870 back bc of problems.
Like others have said, your serial number belongs to you now. Just give it 4 weeks and you should a repaired firearm and a write up of what was the cause for your issues.
This is just my wild guess but did you buy an ADL package 700 ?
nikolatesla19

Yep they took care of it. Yes it is a ADL package.

Just to let you know, the scope is garbage on those rifles( not trying to be a punk) just on 300 win, 300 ultras, 7mm, more than half came back due to them not holding zero.
They should take care you if that fails too.

HS HS HS, if you don't have the gauges, take it to a gunsmith. If the HS is out of whack, bitch up a storm to the MANAGER at whorehouse, try and get something out of it because the gun is gunky...Ask for the moon, and get a bottle of 2buck chuck is philosophy...

Got my gun back. They corrected the ejector tension. Feels a lot better. Happy, happy, happy!
That was fast. I'm amazed how some companies can turn around something in 2 weeks (including shipping) and my scope has been at Nikon for almost 45 days to replace a scratched turret.

I was very shocked on the turnaround. Good luck with yours.
