Can you set up multiple targets?

Draw from holster ?

Use the east range, or is that only for competition ?

The general rules for the range require all targets to be in designated locations, and that pretty much goes for the East Range as well. I was not a general fan of locking down the option to practice the action sports on the East Range, so I volunteered to create a Clearance Protocol for the East Range. In a nutshell, if you can demonstrate safe practices in general agreement with IDPA/SC/USPSA/3Gun safety rules, you can get cleared to set up multiple targets, draw, shoot steel and shoot on the move. Some people are going to cry and whine, but we don't want idiots shutting down our range just because they have not yet received their Darwin Award.

The BOD has approved the protocol and I have completed the check-out sheet. You will need to have a flag at the mouth of the berm while practicing dynamic movement.

I will be at Steel Challenge on Saturday if you want to get cleared.

If you are a CRC member and want to do the East range Dynamic movement clearance, I will be at CRC Saturday and Sunday (July 13, 14) and can set up a few groups to get cleared.

Probably around noon both days is the most opportune. Probably do one after the USPSA match as well if there are some that need it.

If anyone has seen Mark move before, they too would see the irony in him being the one licensing this for others. [obama]

ALL movement was banned a few months ago...it was in the newsletter. I offered this as a solution and the BOD approved it.

If you think I am unsafe or something, I would certainly like to hear why, please send me a note.

I think we all took the comment as a little good natured razzing, Mark.

SA Friday is one of the good guys.

Just making sure. I figured as much, but I have these kinds of threads thrown back at me in depositions where there is a lot on the line, so call it prudence.

Oh, and I danced 5 dances with my wife at a wedding on Saturday, so I am really limbered up. :)

I have had a few people e-mail me or PM me concerned that they may not be able to pass the dynamic movement clearance because they are not "fast" nor are they "competitors".

NO need to worry! 90% of the clearance is common sense safety stuff. Also, if you can't make Saturday, no worries, I will do them at least once a month for the rest of the year. If you don't pass, I will get you a study guide so that you can educate yourself. And no, I won't give it to you ahead of time. The target placement stuff, I will tell you, but the actual safety stuff, you have to know it cold.

I'd prefer you to do so homework by using web resources. Here are a few links to print out and know:

http://www.reloadammo.com/gun-law.htm

http://missilefish.com/firearm-safety/

You will have to demonstrate safe reloads, clearance and unload and holster (bag for long guns) clear for your weapons as well. If you can not pass, you should not have been doing anything but shooting under the control of a range officer anyway. So, if you don't, you will get some good, free education...all good!

Have had 3 people go through the dynamic movement clearance. It was pretty painless. Next one would be August 10.

Is a certificate from someplace like Front Sight or Blue Core a substitute for the in-person stuff? just wondering if there are other ways to get this done without requiring you're time and all the scheduling hassles.

No other way. I will be at the range next Saturday.
