I shoot in the back 40 !! I am east of the springs and have my own range, nothin special, but it beats Ramparts mess.

I live in the Springs but I mainly shoot at Pueblo West and Whistling Pines.

I am not inclined to join Whistling Pines (cost and other side of the city) and PWSA seems like a good thing, but I don't think they have any vacancies in their membership (Hoser, any news on that?).

I usually just drive up to Rampart on weekday mornings (less crowd) and do my shooting. I always include a large trash bag in my kit to take out more than I bring with me.

I am scouting alternative places to shoot on the West side of the city (Teller County) that I will share with people I can trust to not abuse the area.

I have a new XD-m and a rifle that needs to be zeroed. If anyone is going to the South site this weekend, I would like to meet up in Woodland Park if possible.

I shoot at Whistling Pines, Falcon Gun Club and Rampart. I'll only go up to Rampart on weekday mornings to beat the asshattery that seems to run rampant up there.

I'm on vacation until just after Christmas. I'm always willing to shoot.

WPGC is without a doubt expensive. But it does keep the dirtbags and gangbangers away. That I like.

PWSA does not start a waiting list until Jan or Feb.

I shoot pretty much at PWSA only. All though I work in the Springs and used to live there, now I live about 10 mins from PWSA! I only had to wait about 2 months to get it.

If you want to contact the guy in charge of membership, just let me know and I'll give you his phone #.

I usually shoot at WPGC, will meet folks north of Woodland Park once in a blue moon. Am thinking about submitting an application to Frontier Sportsmans Club for long range shooting.

Where do you shoot that is north of Woodland Park?

On Highway 67 North 1.5 miles past the Douglas Teller county line (into Douglas County) there is a Forest Service road that leads (West) to an area used by shooters. I'll post the GPS coordinates when I remember to take my GPS out of the bag... duh...

Mick-Boy, I was wondering about this too. Actually, I'm not familiar with either Falcon SC.

How long is long? I hear that Isaak Walton (just South of HWY 94 at the base of Garbage Hill) has up to 200 yrds, but I like to get in a little 300yrd sighting prior to elk hunting season. Frontiers web site doesn't list any details about their ranges (or perhaps I just don't know where to look).

I will answer for Mick-Boy. He is out of touch for a bit.

Frontier totally screwed up their new range. They had a golden opportunity to make it a world class range with tons of pistol ranges and rifle ranges out to 1,000 yards plus. But instead they did nothing more than recreate their north range. Three friggin huge pistol ranges and rifle berms out to 300. I will stay a member there, but shoot there (the south range, I will never shoot at the North range) very rarely.

I live along Powers and Whistling Pines seems like it would be really convenient and it's clean but I just can't get over the price. The initiation fee is pretty steep but I could get over that if the other prices were reasonable. But $25/month on top of that and their member "discounts" on firearms are terrible. Such a shame too since they appear to be the only indoor range and have very clean facilities. Is the waiting list very long at Fronteir Sportsman? I'm new to the area and still trying to find a place to shoot.

I couldnt tell you about the wait list at Frontier. Contact Earl Hickman at Hickman Rifles.

As far as the "discounts" at WPGC, keep in mind how much it costs to keep the place open, clean and staffed. The mark-up on firearms is not much at all. 10-15% is the average, then a couple % of that goes to the credit card that most everyone pays with. They/we don’t deal in the volume that Wal-Mart does so our prices might seem a touch high.

Members also get about a 25% discount on classes.

If they made monthly dues much cheaper and sold stuff at cost, they would not be in business very long.

...or they would be a very busy place that you could not get quickly into because of the lines at the doors and the registers.

It's a fine line isn't it?

If any business owners want to know how to make a good MAP to their business, go to the Frontier Sportsman's Club (http://www.frontiersportsman.com) website. They have links to custom Google Maps showing you exactly where they are. Kudos! This is a big step up from the black and white maps with just a few major streets marked.

I'm new to the area, west side of the co springs, manitou area. I shoot at rampart generally in the early morning weekdays. I've met some cool guys there. I checked out WPGC, really pricey, dragon mans is ok but not kinda far. Looking for somewhere that goes 300m+ though, everywhere seems to be only out to 100.

They're already a pretty damned busy place as it is. It's an extremely nice facility and getting a lane on the weekend (usually the only time I can shoot) can be pretty rough at times. As a member, I don't think they need to do a lot more to bring in more traffic as long as they are paying bills and maintaining their long term viability. <shrug> Go somewhere else if you don't want to pay the dues.

You call 300 yards "long range"? That is the longest range on either the south or the east property.

Things sound kinda tight up there now? Glad Im down here where Im at! Local range is free- rifle ranges out to 800yards with steel targets (coyotes, fox, deer and PD's) from 285 to about 750-800. One of the advantages to living in the sticks I guess? never had more than 2-3 folks on the range with me-usually Im the only 1 there. :D

I have my own private range at midway (by Pikes peak international raceway). My old man owns some property back there. I have a nice table and some sillohuette (sp?) targets set up. I'd be more than happy to accompany some of you there (sorry can't use it on your own) and you MUST take any trash you bring with you. The second it turns into Rampart, I'm shutting it down, and will fire warning shots if need be.

ANyone interested, PM me.

Ryan.

I just got into Frontier, I'm near the fountain range - so it is convienient for me. I have gone out there once so far and it seems to suit my needs well.
They have 2 informal ranges with high berms (no pre made target stands required) and 2 pistol ranges with dozens of tables, they do need a bit of work on the rifle ranges - would love to have a 1000 yd range available. (See if I could even hit anything... may need a better scope).
Look 'em up online - lots of pics on the website.
Just my .02¢ worth.

Frontier Sportsman's is worth the wait! The members don't put up with nonsense, plus it's safe and clean: http://www.frontiersportsman.com/

The "drop by" at Hickman Rifles (Earl) is entertaining enough... That's a "recommendation" by the way! (He's a good gunsmith and quite the character.)

Frontier is working on 500-1000yd ranges at the south site from what I understand, but are in the process of building a second "informal" range due to popular demand.

In the meantime, we have a few places the CO-AR bunch shoots... Standby for fun!

Surprised no one mentioned Ben Lomond out near Ramah. Its a bit of a haul, but a well run club. They have a 600 yard range (shooting positions covered), 11 berms (2 high power 100 yard), cowboy long range, 5 position shotgun and dedicated 22 LR range.

Its reasonably priced and is not that busy. check out www.blgc.org

Also have open days (June 13th is the open house) and allows non-members to sight in close to hunting season without being a member. They hosted an appleseed out there this weekend (www.appleseedinfo.org).

I have been to rampart and dragonman's. I will never go to rampart again. I don't plan on catching a stray round.

drop me a pm if you have any questions.

Earl and Cat were down at Fal fest (this last weekend) again this year at the whitington center and earl was taking measurements in the pits of the 1000 yard range.

While I like the whitington set-up I also like the Buffalo creek ones. I think a combination of the two would be ideal.

Ryan. I just got two 500 plates from widners for gongs. I have the stands so we need to get together. I leave for the Oregon Fal shoot on the 23rd. much to do in a little time.

That seems to be the general concensus around here. Plus I haven't liked the way some folks checked me out to estimate how much resistance I'd put up to having my guns stolen.

So where is this place, exactly? Or should I just head south on 115 and watch for a cigarette can somewhere on the side of the road?

Is it a real range, or a free place people go to shoot? Cost anything?

More details, please....

I didn't read through everything but is there an 600-1K range around the Springs area where you DON'T have to be a member of a place?
