So I have my AR locked up in a safe, mags are empty, bullets are in a lock box in the safe. Wife says "You need to have a mag ready to go, AR ready to grab, lock and load baby".

So my question is this, if i load up a a 30 round mag how many bullets should i load in to not damage the mag over a long period of time, how often should I rotate them? Any advice would be appreciated.

Load all the way, do not rotate.

Load it fully you will be fine. I have a few dozen loaded. It takes YEARS to actually do damage if any at all.

I have about 36 mags loaded at all time. The rest still in plastic wrap. I used to cycle them every spring-fall... lately with the price of the ammo, they'll stay loaded. As far as home defense.. I have 3 30 round mags in the 'battle belt' along with trauma kit, side arm holster and mags under my bed.

If you search the forum, you'll find that others have stored mags for years and years, and they simply don't wear out. The action of loading and unloading what wear down the spring.
