We are very pleased to announce that we were able to arrange an exclusive factory direct shipping deal from Bulletblocker to all www.budsgunshop.com (http://www.budsgunshop.com/) customers !
These bullet resistant panels are rated level IIIA by the National Institute of Justice, which means they can stop any handgun caliber all the way up to a .44 magnum. We offer backpacks with the panels already installed, or you can even buy the panels by themselves and instantly turn any backpack, bag or accessory into a level IIIA bullet resistant shield. In the presence of a threat, simply take the backpack by the top handle and hold it in front of your vital organs for protection. We have two different size panels to fit any style bag, from daypacks to children’s backpacks. Use the backpack as an everyday bag with the added security of knowing it can stand a direct shot from a .44 magnum, or use the panels inside a purse, briefcase, laptop case or range bag. Whether it's for your children, your family, or even yourself, added security and peace of mind is now available. See us put them to the test in the video below, or click here (http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/26_1388/Accessories/Body+Armor) to view all Bulletblocker options available on Budsgunshop.com. I got the email too and am intrigued with the idea of buying just the bare plate (or sheet, since its not metal) and putting it in my own backpack instead of buying one of their backpacks.
It also reminds me of that other backpack that had a loop you reached over your head and pulled up and over onto your chest that acted like a chest rig and held a CCW and if I recall, had a plate of some sort in it too.
But, I also only carry a backpack with me at work, for lugging my laptop back and forth, so this doesn't seem like the ideal solution for me.

Not available in Connecticut. Now that's ironic isnt it. What a dumb bunch up there.
Yeah, I'd just get the insert and put it in my own backpack, but you have a better chance of seeing God than you do of seeing me hauling around a backpack for any reason. Maybe in my truck, but never on me.
IOW - I need one like I need another tit, so I'll never get one. But I still think it's a good idea. Never seen it before.

Exactly. If you go to their website, they sell vests that you can put them in, but then why not just get a vest at that point. I guess there is the modularity aspect of it. Would still be interested in seeing more reviews though.

The pack hit the market 1-2 weeks after newtown. Buds inventory must be real low.

This also puzzled me.

I believe Connecticut had some "Body Armor" regulations or something, this would fall into that I think?
I was thinking of the boys new backpacks, but at $250 a pop might be a little out of our league and probably heavy for the toddlers.

If i recall from their website, the plates are only 20 oz, so hopefully toddlers can still carry that.

Gotta make sure the next mass shooting in full body steel reactive armor, fully semi-fully auto Assault Rifle-15, 88mm rocket launcher, military grade anti-armor homing bullets, self aiming ACOG, plasma bayonet, and Magpull 1000 round clip magazine can be take down by the CT National guard.
if i felt my daughter was going to need body armor i wouldnt be sending her to school

I have Level IIIA in my daughters backpack. She does not even realize it is there, I am pretty sure my wife does not even know it is in there.
In high school where kids carry their backpacks everywhere it is a feasible idea. In elementary, unless the backpack is in the classroom with the kid and not in a locker or hallway, it is not so feasible.
Too much? Maybe, but like guns and condoms, better to have it and not needed than need it and not have it. Since she can't take my .380 to school and schools are buttfucking stupid when it comes to safety and security this was a decision that was easy to make.

Without your daughter not knowing what she has, what makes you think in the unfortunate event something bad happens, she will go for her backpack as some sort of protective device?
Why not be upfront with her and let her know you were concerned for her safety and put the plate in it for her that way she has a fighting chance if something does in fact happen?
FTR, I have 6 kids and am very upfront with them and do not hid a whole lot from them. Treat them as adults and they will act like adults is my philosophy.

Yeah should have explained that better. She knows it's there and what to do with it, but its so lightweight it doesn't effect her ability to carry her backpack. She is in kindergarten so she just needs to know what to do not why, yet. Once she gets a bit older I will explain the why. She just knows that her backpack can help protect her.

For IIIA panel... buy it local. Don't we have a guy who is a manufacturer? He's been listing custom cut IIIA in the trading section.
In today's asinine "zero tolerance" school world, I wouldn't be surprised if a kid got kicked out for bringing this to school, because it's "gun related".

Ok, that makes tons more sense and that is how I would tell my almost 7 year old.
What's the price on those panels? I don't see a reason not to have them in all our bags.
