"Billy bob" posts a firearm for "X" dollars. I contact billy bob and said I will take the firearm. He said its mine and we agreed to meet tomorrow morning. He then texts 2 hours later and says some guy offered a higher price and said if I match it it's "for sure" mine. I said no. Do I have the right to be PO about the deal?

yes, if it was a deal on this site post a -1 for the offender in the feedback section and let peer pressure take its course, if it was on armslist it is expected, just send them a pic of your middle finger and move on.

He agreed to a deal and then reneged. Move on. If he is a member here leave him negative feedback.

Yep way to many wishy washy folks out there. I have had 3 separate folks on different boards commit to buy a .308 of mine only to bail at the last minute. Walk away you will find another deal...

Yes you do. He is a worm, probably didn't have a higher offer, just wanted to get more $$ out of you. Alot of people out there are just crap, unfortunately we have to meet them to know who they are.

I sold a bolt action .22lr on armslist several months ago. Had one buyer who contacted me like 6mo prior when I tried selling it and she was all wishy washy and never really committed. Since I wanted it gone, I told her that I'd honor the price I said 6mo prior (which was $110), even though I was including a box of .22lr with it (this is post newtown shooting when ammo was impossible to find). She still was all wishy washy, but I agreed to meet with her and let her see it first hand.

Then, I got 3 emails from other buyers stating they'd take it for the price in the ad of $150. I emailed the girl that I was dealing with to ask her for clarity if she was definitely going to take it or not, because I had other potential buyers who wanted responses that day. She emailed back and said she'd take it, and gave me an extra $10 for agreeing to our first price and for not selling it out from under her.

I think honesty goes a long way with things like this, and it sucks you got screwed over, but definitely post who/where you were going to buy it so we can let internet justice take over.

^this^ and you have to leave negative feedback so we know who they are.

This. Common armslist tactic. List firearm at $100 below price, then when you get lots of replies, pull that dick move. There are always people out there who are eager to be taken advantage of.

What others said.
I Hope it is not one of the member here.

Good thing it happened on armslist. But I did have a member's brother do the EXACT same thing to me. And one day later he texted me saying the higher offer fell through and was willing to sell to me again.

Make a deal.
Stick with a deal.

There is a reason I do not do business on Armslist...

Since I agree and don't want to repeat what's already said, so I'll leave this here:
"The measure of a man is in not only his actions, but especially in the oaths he keeps." -Edmund Burke

Do you have a reason? Sure. But who cares? I had a similar deal and I dropped it immediately on the spot and moved on with life. Hasn't bothered me since. It bothers you if you let it.

From my memories of my business law class, *legally* he'd be bound to your first agreement (Offer and Acceptance). If it were some sort of super-deal that you couldn't live without, you *could* force the issue.

But it sounds like the guy's a jerkbag, so I strongly doubt you'd want to do business with him in the first place.

Ya, good luck with that.

This thread reminds me of Dicks dishonoring Troy AR15 carbine.
These fools even collected money from people, and dishonored their agreement.

If he accepted your offer it would be considered a legally binding verbal contract, but unless you recorded the conversation or had a witness it would be your word against his. Personally the guy is a jerk but it is nothing you cant live without so I would not let it bother me.
