Summary On 06/03/13 at approximately 0258 hours, Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Gold Hill Division were dispatched to the 00 block of Las Piedras Escondidas to investigate a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers were unable to locate any sign of shots being fired and thus they cleared the area without having any contact with the suspect.

On 06/03/13 at approximately 0356 hours, Gold Hill and Sand Creek Officers were again dispatched to the 00 block of Las Piedras Escondidas to investigate multiple reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers too heard the gunshots and they were able to determine that they were coming from the south side of Garden of the Gods Park. While attempting to determine the exact location of the shots, officers heard approximately 100 to 150 rounds being fired. The officers reported nearly being struck by several of the rounds that appeared to be ricocheting off of the park’s rock formations. Officers contained the immediate area, during which they observed a male, later identified as Brandon Bougades of Colorado Springs, walking from the vicinity of where the shots were fired. Officers identified Mr. Bougades as the suspect and he was taken into custody without incident. Officers determined that Mr. Bougades was using a semi-automatic handgun and a pump-action shotgun to shoot two rock formations. During a search of the park, officers located approximately 150 spent shell casings/rounds. Mr. Bougades was subsequently served and released for Reckless Endangerment and Disorderly Conduct. At the time of this writing there are no reports of injuries or damages.

Based on the address, I'm going to guess that the part of the park he was shooting at wasn't the big pretty rocks (just the rocks around the old empty reservoir on the south east corner of the park) ... of course this actually put more people at risk than shooting at the big rocks would have.

Thing is he'll probably be seen as "one of us" because he liked Magpul on his facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/brandon.bougades?id=1368200606)(also appears he's in the Army so he'll probably be in trouble with his CO too).

On a side note, nobody was in any real danger at any point because the gun he was shooting only had 10 round magazines (most of the strings of fire where 2 slow shots followed by 8 rapid fire shots).

Easy Jim, it takes the sound a long time to travel from Garden of the Gods up to Aurora, so 20X11 didn't hear the shots till 10 tonight.

So he wasn't drunk, on drugs or insane just stupid. Apparently he honestly believed he could shoot where he was (why he thought even if shooting was allowed there that it would be allowed at 2-4am is beyond me).

i live about a 1/4 mile from where he was shooting, i started listening to the scanner when the first shots were fired at 0230. Sounded like he was just blowing through clips, strings of 8-10 shots. the first cops that responded cleared the scene in about 15 minutes, then they started searching aroung 0430 or 0500 when they kept getting reports. funniest part was when i heard two cops say cop1 " judging by the semi-auto fire i'm sure thats a AR" cop2 "yes i concur" lmfao.........

Even if he thought it was legal - let's give him the benefit of the doubt here, just for fun - what about it was smart?

1. He said he cleared the area and was shooting in a safe direction. IT'S DARK. You can't ID your target or otherwise ensure the area stays safe.
2. He was obviously in a residential neighborhood, very close to other houses. Even if it was legal (it wasn't), and even if it was safe (it wasn't), was it polite? This isn't a remote part of the county. It's the city, and he's shooting a bunch of rounds, and not expecting to wake anyone up? Or just not caring?

Cops raised in the city only ever hearing gunshots at the range with hearing protection wouldn't know the difference between a 9mm, 44mag, .223, or 12ga. In the open field.
