Ciener Kit, Enlighten Me

So who's running one? How do you like it? How reliable is it for training and plinking purposes? Anything negative about having one? Am i better off with a dedicated .22lr upper?

What's a good price and where did you order it from?

ordered from brownells.
the ones i have run fine. I DO NOT USE LUBE on the rails. some use a little, others soak the shit out of the rails. All that does is gum up after lots of rounds.
i use mine in a dedicated 22 upper built off a ruger 77/22 bbl with bbl bushing made to fit the ar receiver. 1/16 twist threaded 1/2x28 for my suppressors. use the blackdomachine
mags shoot mostly federal bulk pack from wallyworld.
IF you decide to pick one up, i'd go to brownells. they discontinued carrying the ceiners and now (ok backordered) carry the CMMG units. similar but better cust svc.
you should have a min of 1/9 twist ar bbl the 1/7's don't pattern as well as the 1/9's do some guys are running a colt 1/12 twist bbl with better results then 1/9.
the dedicated .22 uppers like tac-sol and spikes are 1/16.
you can run mine through a mag or 2 if you like.
My ceiners do not like sub-sonic ammo. i could go the lakeside machine spring kit route, however i'm too lazy to order one in

Dedicated upper is the only way to go in my opinion. .22 is best with a 1/16 twist not saying it won't work with faster twist rates but for best performance 1/16.

I have had no problems with my ciener dedicated .22 upper in semi but it has issues in full auto with certain types of ammo.

For a semi gun I would buy the tactical solutions dedicated upper and be done with it.

Obviously the drawback of a dedicated .22 upper is price and availability. I know Spike's for instance is backlogged 20 weeks or some such. I haven't heard of tactical solutions, anymore details on that?

At the moment i have 2 rifles, one with 1/7 and another 1/9. I have a lower sitting in the safe i've been considering building into a dedicated .22, so that is most certainly an avenue i'm willing to explore.

Any more opinions are welcome.

The biggest problem with the Ciener kits is super-duper, awsome, hot-rockin', customer service that JAC provides. People have had problems getting spares from him. I would spend my money elsewhere.

I run one that I change to/fro the 5.56 bolt when I want to shoot indoor ranges or shoot on the cheap...I have a 1:8 twist barrel and it runs great...in a couple hundred rounds the only problem I've had is one spent casing flew upwards and jammed in the bolt and had to be pulled out with some pliers from beneath the receiver...otherwise it has been flawless.

It even ran the Remington SubSonics my GSG-5 was having trouble ejecting...

I've had no issues with my Ciener. I've seen the complaints about his customer service and knew folks in Satellite Beach, Cocoa Beach and Titusville that said he was an arrogant a-hole but customer service is only important if you need it and so far I haven't needed it.

I use a Ciener bolt covnersion kit with BDM mags in my AR15 and it runs wonderfully. In ~500 rounds it's only jammed maybe twice, which is pretty good by .22 standards. The reason that I like it is that I can use the same upper, with the same optics and everything, for cheap practice shooting. When I tested it out from the prone position at 25m, it even kept the same zero with the EOtech as the 5.56.

i picked up a TS upper from allen (machineguntours) a few months ago. takes about 500 rds to break it in and some testing to find its favorite ammo, but runs like a dream now. at $600, it pays for itself in a couple thousand rounds - it's nice to go out, throw 4-500 rds downrange and only be out $20. plus, it's just fun to shoot.

I ran mine for the first time this weekend in Nebraska on a dog hunt…. I’m in love...I can’t take it out of my Bushmaster (my fun gun). This thing ran great and its CHEEP to shoot GET ONE!!

I love mine, with the bdm mags, it is hard to not have fun with it.

Got the AA conversion for my Glock as well, so I can shoot pretty cheap on a trip to the range.

I have a 1/7 barrel, I just don't shoot the longer ranges so I don't worry about the accuracy so much.
