I was just scanning through some of the group buy threads and saw all the drama going on and decided to run some numbers.

Patrick has a bunch going on that are being held up due to the reloaded loosing his brass supply, Loveski has one being held up due to an employee taking all the money and running.

Just running some quick numbers it's insane we as members currently have nearly $200,000 sitting out there in limbo. I just did this quick in 5 minutes, there may be some more group buys I missed.

BUY Price Amount(k) Extended
5.56 55 VI 355 73 $25,915
5.56 55 VII 395 61 $24,095
5.56 55 VIII 440 98 $43,120
5.56 75 455 20 $9,100
5.56 68 445 15 $6,675
.45 230 III 390 22 $8,580
.308 147 III 740 11 $8140
9 115 iV 265 42 $11,130
Loveski 370.30 115 $42,584.50

SUM $179,339.50

I have no fear that patrick's supplier will come through for all involved

If you really want a scary number add in all the parts the board members are waiting on from national suppliers
How many of us have orders from january or december we are still waiting on

... Loveski has one being held up due to an employee taking all the money and running.

From what I've read, that statement is not accurate.

...and this is the reason it's going away. We can't handle adversity and are a pretty big group of whiney bitches..

I took it as him just saying there was a shitload of money tied up in group buys, not a bitch session?

I'm/was involved in 4 of these. (some arrived)

I knew what I was in for. You can't honestly tell me, after Sandy Hook happened and the panic started that these orders would just magically fall from the heavens.

I know there is this..., and I know there is that....., But is there any other ammo available right now in the quantities and prices these GB's have offered? I ain't seen nun!

I'm confident my ammo will come. And I didn't look at it as an investment. I looked at it as buying ammo. If I find a deal on the shelf, I buy it.

Wow, we could buy about 5 mins with a politician with that amount of money!

Wondering how well group buys historically work out. I ordered in a pallet of AK ammo and funded it myself thinking it would sell overnight... but the logistics of moving and selling it definitely were more than I had accounted for. Would have probably been a better idea to pre-sell it with a pickup arrangement. LOL.

So much drama lately in this "hobby".

i hadn't really paid attention to that one as I am not in it, what I posted was the last I read.

exactly, I wasn't bitching, just realizing how much money we all have tied up out there.

This. A lot of folks have [from appearance] never dealt with body shops or gun smith. Yeah sure it will be ready in 3 weeks. This time next year, maybe

I know cars that sat 4-5 years before they were "rescued" back. Last engine that I needed machining on. "Be done in 2 weeks" took 8 months.......

I have done plenty of group buys with people at private ranges and never had a problem. I also have never had one come through quicker then i wanted. I think the quickest was reclaimed shot that was already sitting on pallets in another state, it took 2.5 months. I am sorry to see this section go because we all could have managed some great deals post panic. C'est la vie but it is still a loss.

It is sad to see it go, maybe they could bring it back later. It is nice to be able to use a groups buying power to get better deals.

Amen. Should there ever be another opportunity I WILL NOT involve friends or coworkers.

Having just sponsored the reloading powder group buy, not sure I'll do that again. What worked for me was the order was limited to 48lbs by MidwayUSA, which allowed me to front the funds for the order rather than being the middle man for other people's money and capped the number that could participate. Folks that got in on the order were very patient, but didn't help when the ball kept on moving and the ship date kept getting pushed due to the volume of orders Midway was processing and the limitation that they could only load 100lbs of powder on a truck and could only cycle a certain number of trucks through the facility.

New found appreciation for Patrick and others that sponsored the group buys that didn't have a cap in the number of folks that can participate.

That sounded like a pita from the get go. I'd have had them join the forum if they wanted in on it.

well, has a final decision been made on the group buys? the thread referenced above leaves it open ended, however, there is the note on the GB forum....
