Counties are getting together and talking about succeeding from the State.

and yes, I know this is politics and probably could go in the politics/legislation section. But, I think that this encompasses all aspects of some of our lives. It would be a major deal. I know its a non issue. The governor and legislature are not going to allow it.

I expect nothing will come of this, much like previous secession attempts, but I'm not saying I don't agree with it. Shoot, call it Weld, USA or whatever, I might be tempted to buy some property.

I suggest we name the two "Colorado" which is the portion that split, and "Eastern California" for the metro Denver area.

Instead of a new state, why not make the Denver-boulder area a Disctict of Colorado. The Denver District of Colorado. Let them govern themselves and leave the rest of the state alone.

In the future, perhaps we could build a wall around it for their protection, and then fill it with water.

Anyone seen previews for that new show "The Dome"? I suggest we put one over all of Denver and Boulder and slowly vacumn out the air.

I'd be game, but our Dem overlords wouldn't (and you can't form a new state in the boundaries of another without their permission too).

The problems with the water and vacuum solutions are:

1. It's a waste of water, unless you want to use the fracking solutions, which does include delicious irony
2. Where do you want to dump the exhaust from the vacuum? Don't know if we can filter out the Denver well enough.

Hell yeah. Would the USA recognize us as a newly formed state or would North Colorado have to become an independent nation?

I love it when states like Montana or Wyoming threaten to secede but I've never heard of a county or counties threatening to secede from a state.

Just thinking out loud/dreaming here, but could the seceding counties "re-affiliate" with an adjoining state such as Wyoming, Utah, etc.? That way there would not be a new state, but redefined state boundaries. I would think that would allow the leveraging of the host states infrastructure, constitution, etc.

Sec. 226. Thirdly, I answer, that this doctrine of a power in the people of providing for their safety a-new, by a new legislative, when their legislators have acted contrary to their trust, by invading their property, is the best fence against rebellion, and the probablest means to hinder it: for rebellion being an opposition, not to persons, but authority, which is founded only in the constitutions and laws of the government; those, whoever they be, who by force break through, and by force justify their violation of them, are truly and properly rebels: for when men, by entering into society and civil-government, have excluded force, and introduced laws for the preservation of property, peace, and unity amongst themselves, those who set up force again in opposition to the laws, do rebellare, that is, bring back again the state of war, and are properly rebels: which they who are in power, (by the pretence they have to authority, the temptation of force they have in their hands, and the flattery of those about them) being likeliest to do; the properest way to prevent the evil, is to shew them the danger and injustice of it, who are under the greatest temptation to run into it. -John Locke

Same for NY, most of NY are not supporting the Safe Act, but New Yuke City aka Bloomberg-vile controls politic.

But I really like the wall idea, creating short term jobs + tax money well spend to say the least

Article IV, Section 3:
New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.

Our counties shouldn't have to succeed. Denver, Boulder, Arapahoe, Larimer, Douglas and Jefferson should be kicked out! I would rather move 50 miles and keep the name Colorado.

Plus we wouldn't be soooo square anymore....

Colorado will no more allow counties to secede than the Federal Government will allow individual states to secede. Pure theatrics with no end result, plain and simple.

Hippies . . . . . . . . really?

Two of our staunchest supporters in the Colorado Legislature are from right here in Parker. Chris Holbert Congressional district 44 and Ted Harvey Senate district 30.

Douglas county sure is a hell of a lot more red than some of the rural counties that elected Dumbocrats.

Douglas county immediately voted to not allow any head shops after the legislation went through.

Don't lump us in with the hippies.

Both. We'd have to get the CO legislature's approval, and that of Congress.

Didn't a bunch of farm communities want to get together and create their own state between areas consisting of several different states about 20 years ago?

In some ways Colorado is a lot like my home of Oregon. On my maps both are just about 11"X15" and if all you could do was take 3 quarters each and place them on the map and block out the voters from those three quarters then all would be fine.

Sad that in both cases 1/100th of the state controls the rest.[Bang]

We all have access to a reset button. It's just that a conglomerate of like-minded souls haven't come together yet. Not much an idividual can do in that regard, except "die from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, while the house (accidentally set on fire by flash bangs) burned down around them".

West & East Coast "Conservatives" once removed from what they perceive to be a liberal area, take about 3 yrs to realize they miss the shit hole they use to live in and do everything possible to fuck it up. Granted there are as many true R's moving here too. However when Boulder is considering sales of weed at their farmers markets, those voters are entitlement hungry.

Isn't that the very definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. Repeat CA over and over, 50 times, and you have a place that looks much worse than the former USSR after the collapse.

You can't fix stupid.

I moved here from CA when I was 17. My parents are Libs as is most of my family. They moved here for a better a life.

15 years later my family members are still Libs voting the same way they did in CA. They see CO turning into CA and they don't understand what's going on. Their explanation at this point is that it's just the way things are going to become and they accept it.

15 years later I am a libertarian who votes for the Repubs. My family hates me for it and they say they still don't know how I can vote for those evil greedy Republicans who don't do shit for the middle class.

I kept more of my paycheck under Bush than I did under Clinton and now this Obamacare thing and Obamas bullshit energy policies are going to put me and everyone else in the poor house. How are the Dems supporting the middle class again?

Like I said you can't fix stupid.
