One of my buddies dug a little deeper into that Denver gun buy-back a couple weekends ago that was supposed to be rescheduled - but it looks like they still (illegally) held it and (illegally) purchased 10 firearms for $500 that day. Here's his article:

"I Haven't Read Any Statute" on Gun Shows, Buy-Back Organizer Says

The New Covenant Christian Church intends to host a gun buy-back on December 27. Volunteers with the effort also collected ten guns at or near City Park on December 6, for which they paid a total of $500, according to Pastor Reginald Holmes of New Covenant.

According to Colorado law, the event on December 6 as well as the scheduled event on December 27 qualify as gun shows, yet organizers made no indication that they followed the gun-show law on December 6 or intend to do so at the later event. Holmes said, "This is not a gun show," but he admitted, "No, I haven't read any statute" on the matter." He said he would evaluate the text of the statute and get back with me. <read the rest> (http://www.freecolorado.com/2008/12/i-havent-read-any-statute-on-gun-shows.html)

3 or more people get together to buy a gun and its a gun show. Way to run a foul of the law. Don't worry though. After the trial the police with destroy the evidence for you.

You should and you should video them buying guns ilegally and give that tape to the cops. It would show that gun owners can talk care of their own. And we make no exeption for law breaker no matter how PC their cause is.

A friend of mine wants to sit out on the sidewalk outside this event with a table and a sign that says "Appraise your gun here". Add a blue book of gun values, and advise them they can go to the Tanner show and sell to any licensed dealer. Then they can be sure that their gun won't end up in the hands of anyone that hasn't passed NICS.

The DA would be the one who prosecutes. And well, In Denver... I wouldn't be surprised if they prosecute the person who made the video for "illegal surveillance of at-risk adults" or some other made up charge! (yes, I know there is no such thing).
You can video tapr people in public. I would be willing to do it just to fuck with those cheap skates.[Stooge]

public property, yes you can film on. so the first one that was "cancelled" at the park would have been a go. this saturday will be on private property and you need to ask permission to video there. however, that being said, sidewalks outside the church are public property. as a suggestion if you do come, don't be contentious and show up to stir up trouble at the event. attend as a citizen concerned about their cause - you'll be welcomed in and likely get better footage to use later... you get more flies with a drop of honey than a gallon of vinegar.

As someone who lives out in the country- I can say that you get by far the most with a big pile of poo!

other than that- it's good advise... if anyone asks, you're doing a "documentary" about guns[ROFL2]

Seems as if they didn't raise as much money as they would have liked for the "buy-back".

If anybody sees me there stop and say hi, I'll be in my white 2003 dodge truck. I plan participating in the "buy back" by buying some guns back from people who dont want them.

Thx Brad

Well just got back, what a farce..... like the last news story, they didn't have any money..... but I did ;) They did have several unhappy people though, everyone went in when they opened the doors, then everyone came out. Mostly people with older junk, non working firearms, etc.. I did buy 2 .25 autos, 60$ each. If I had known they were not going to pay I would have offered less. However, I bought them before the doors opened. I kinda regret buying them but oh well, can probably sell for more than I bought them for if I wanted too. I think they may have recieved a stolen firearm, there was a group of women who brought a cloth wrapped object to them. She had a brief conversation with a man who was just coming out about whether she wanted to sell and she said she just wanted to get rid of it. The media was there, the post and the local cbs affiliate. Took pics of me and my truck, I didn't want to talk to them, figured no good would come of it. Makes me wish I'd taken more time on the signs, they were kinda crude, as I did them sitting in the back of the truck.

Thx Brad

I wrote the whore reporter a message about the story. I hope I didn't crush any of his beliefs about gun owners being time bombs or anything.

I was reading and listening to your story on the gun buy back and I was wondering why there was no mention of how they ran a foul of the law on the 6th when they held their last gun show. According to Colorado law 3 or more people get together to buy a gun it will be considered a gun show. There is no exception for gun buy back. They broke the law trying to be PC. They heard about gun buy backs in other cities and thought they could do something important sounding here too. To bad they didn't read about those gun buy backs being dismal failures as well.
The people at these gun buy backs have no idea that the guns that they want to buy are not worth $50 and no body in their right minds would turn in a gun worth a $1000 for $50.

Also, there is no mention of law abiding gun owners. I think that there is a law abiding community thousand of times larger that obey the law and don't commit crimes with their guns. However, there isn't one mention of them. Why is that? Are you unaware that there is a group of people that own firearms that don't kill people with them? The story sounds like all guns are to blame for the deaths of the 2 people mentioned in your story. Guns don't move on their own. They are inanimate objects after all. Couldn't their time be better spent getting the word out to criminals that punishments are severe for murder? And maybe mention a few people protecting themselves with guns against criminals? A hoodlum with an illegal gun isn't going to care about what the law says if they have decided to live outside of the law. They may think twice about rape or murder if there is a chance that someone they think is an easy target will kill them. That might get them to rethink their whole career choice? Maybe they can go to the church for help instead of a handout?

Misusing a gun is offensive to all law abiding gun owners and mentioning that "guns in the wrong hands" without mentioning criminals makes it sound like all guns and all gun owners. Improving education about gun safety will save more lives than a meaningless attempt to a hundred guns off the street at $50 a pop. Maybe sell them at a real gun show where back ground checks are done on the buyers. That will ensure that the person buying the gun doesn't have the wrong hands. And if the gun is worth more than $50 it will ensure that someone isn't getting ripped off by some people willing to break a gun show law to get something... I don't know what? If its to save 1 life its a waste of resources, because education about guns can save many more lives without eroding a right or cheapening the people who exercise it.

Thanks for your time.

David

You sir did a good thing. I was unaware that it was today. I would have gone down there. I wonder if its still going on?
25 autos are POS. I think that you can sell them to some poor family that needs protection but can't afford a Kimber. I would ask that you make sure they work first and have the serial numbers ran to make sure they aren't stolen too.

I wanted to go down there too. Next time.
I want to buy you a beer as a token of thanks for your time.[Beer]
