View Full Version : ID Question
I just moved, changed my addy on the DMV website, then as per their instructions put a sticker with my new address on the back of my DL. Will this create any problems on a background check, just seemed strange using just a sticker? Thanks!

If you have a ccw or second I'd normally its cool, I have had the sticker for 8 years on my 10 year license and every now and then I get some pencil jockey bust in my balls on gun and fishing/hunting license purchases. It would be worth the $25 to get the new license, but not the 3 hour wait at the DMV.

No. Putting the new address on the back is fine. If concerned the gunstore is going to be picky, a vehicle registration reflecting the current address or a hunting or fishing license are the two most common secondary state issued IDs.

I always use my vehicle registration for gun purchases.

If its any consolation, I've mailed in the change of address form for both my DL and both of my vehicles now THREE times, and I JUST got a renewal notice for one of my cars that was addressed to the first house I lived in while I moved here 3 years ago. I didn't even OWN this vehicle when I lived at that address. The registration for the vehicle even has a different address, yet it was sent there.
Long story short, DMV's SUCK!

I scheduled an appointment online and was in and out in 15 minutes in DC.

If your pic is over 10 years old, they will not renew online. Requires a new pic. Mine was 15 years old (he could tell by the background color). They dropped the 10 year licenses, 5 years now but you can renew once online.

I once had a Prometric test administrator refuse an unsigned CC as a second ID. All my CC are printed "See Photo ID." I didn't have my passport with me so I went out to the car, grabbed my UNSIGNED registration, SIGNED IT and went back inside and handed it to her. I had satisfied her stupid requirement.

Ha, okay thanks jim, that does make sense now. I'll look for my new id in the mail in the next 3-5 years.

Si. We have friends down that a way and to say NM is "slower" as you know, is an understatement.
Just so you know. I was told I could not receive a new DL unless mine was either lost or expired. If you move you put the sticker on the back and that's supposed to be legal.
The last time I tried to buy a firearm with the sticker I was told it wasn't legal and I couldn't buy the weapon. I now have my Concealed permit so hopefully that will be enough but it won't surprise me if its not.
I didn't know about the online renewals...totally great to know it's that easy to do. Saved me a trip to the DMV, thanks.
I've bought a gun from a shop with a different address. I might have had the new address written on the back, but I'm not sure.
