Go get your family and get the hell out. 2 miles is danger close. If you can't get home, have your MIL pack some essentials and boogie with the little one.

DO NOT PLAY...
the slightest change/shift in wind or weather and it can cover 5 miles in NOTHING FLAT

I am talking about:
Lock a case of MRES, the BoB< Docs and criticals in the car at 10 Miles. have EVERYONE DRESSED and READY TO GO
at 5 Miles... time to go to a relatives house.

DO NOT just watch the "fire to my house" distance, Be aware of your egress routes and being cut off.

Be safe... they build new houses every day. you and your families are irreplaceable.

Birddog1911

HB, you keep your eyes out when the wind shifts tonight; I believe that it'll be pushing it in your direction, if they haven't gotten some control over it.

Aerial resources are now helping.

It's that time of the year again, and these fires suck ass.
Everyone should really take a look at their emergency supplies, evac plans, etc.
And this is a great resource: http://www.springsgov.com/units/fire/oem/Colorado%20Springs%20Emergency%20Preparedness%20an d%20Safety%20Guide.pdf especially starting page 52 where it talks about how to evac and what to take.

Black Forest Animal Shelter is under evacuation, too--this was from their FB page:
THE SANCTUARY IS UNDER EVACUATION! Flames can be seen from the property. If you have trailers, trucks, suvs, dogs crates, or anything that can transport an animal, even just one cat, please go immediately to the rescue! EVERYONE needs to be saved! The address of the rescue is 16750 Thompson Rd. Black Forest CO 80908. You can get there through Hodgen rd in Black Forest, just tell the Sheriff that you are helping evacuate the rescue. Once there are people there, it will be sorted out who brings what. The animals are going to Lotago Trails, but GO TO THE RESCUE FIRST! We need everyone possible to help. If you live in the area, but cannot help, SHARE THIS POST so we can get everyone to safety. Thank you!

Hopefully with the wind change overnight and Hoser's crew they'll get this beat down without another major blowout... I am at 7200 feet on the NW side of Colo. Springs. I can watch the fire from the end of my block. The high winds from the SE are expanding the fire and pushing it north.
I cannot imagine how this could be stopped in the high winds.
I see lots and lots of dark smoke flares meaning buildings are being consumed. This is just awful. This may end up as bad a last year's Waldo Canyon fire.

I hope everyone can stay out of harm's way.

Thanks to you too LippCJ and all of your folks!

Beyond the sadness of seeing our backyard burn/naturalizing, I can't imagine the exhaustion level it after three days. Any real ideas on what your teams need "quick" response? I know locally, Care & Share and others are overrun with COSTCO water, vita-drinks, and similar soccer mom drop-offs... Basically now asking for frontline suggestions my wife/granny could spend in line to "help".

Stay safe ALL and Godspeed!

How long until Hickenlooper signs a statewide fire ban?

Following the liberals mentality, they should just pass legislation banning forest/wild fires. That will solve these problems.

We are just north and east of the pre-evac and mandatory evac zones here in Woodmoor. Have some friends staying with us that were evacuated yesterday.

God willing, we will be ok here but have the vehicles mostly packed and the rest of our thigns staged to be loaded.

Be safe. Fires are nothing to mess with.

Fighting wildfires is very hard work, can't say enough good things for those in the air and on the ground trying to stop the fires. I think after last year, the locals are reaching out to repay a favor to those displaced by the current fires. Lets hope the weather starts to cooperate soon, and the winds don't start whipping out of the east.

Anyone that knows the area with a ATV can bypass roadblocks and get to places in the burn area. Many of the old areas of BF have trails that the locals built years ago to get around and to friends places. I hope for the best.

Ya know, I'm not generally one to support even more new laws and in particular I'm not one to encourage the state to make more things a felony, but frankly if you're caught stealing in a disaster area or from evacuees it should be an automatic Class C felony ... 10-25. Also there should be automatic legal immunity for anyone that kills looters.

COLORADO SPRINGS — A man and woman convicted of looting a house after its owners had fled the Waldo Canyon fire were sentenced Wednesday to lengthy prison terms.Shane Erik Garrett, 36, received 48 years in prison. He had faced a sentence in the triple digits for the June 26 burglary, in which roughly $3,000 worth of property was stolen from the Mountain Shadows neighborhood home of Chris and Carol White. His co-defendant, Belinda Wells-Yates, 39, was sentenced Wednesday afternoon to 72 years.A jury convicted the pair of a variety of crimes at a February trial, including burglary, identity theft and methamphetamine possession. Wells-Yates is believed to have entered the home through a doggy door under a scheme the pair had planned to repeat as flames threatened to wipe out entire neighborhoods in Colorado Springs — with Wells-Yates telling an undercover officer they were "chasing the fire."

Now that the Fed's have taken over we are waiting for assignment under the Federal umbrella, frustrating but what can you do, we are still on standby for the county in case the fire makes a run into Douglas or Elbert Counties but today the fire laid down on the north side and the crews should have gotten a lot of work done, as I told Outback we found that Grass will not carry the fire at any speed at all unless it is tall grass with lots of dry dead top growth which is pretty rare in that area lots of livestock etc.., so on the northern part of Black Forest where the trees become more patchy we have a good chance to stop it, problem is this fire is living in the canopy where its a completely different game.

Sometimes its the little things LOL, I get a choice of a shovel, McLeod, Pulasky, Rhino or a Combi, those guys bring water, talk about spoiled!!

Ok seriously when its on the ground its a pretty simple deal, remove the fuel, hand line down to mineral soil, 2 to 3 times flame length and move on, keep the fire out of the trees, and kill it on the ground, if fire gets into the trees remove the trees, if you don't have time to remove the trees, RUN LIKE HELL....

I love it, I really do.

Very sad. Didn't see smoke this am on the way up to the shelter today. On the flip side, those of you who live near areas prime for fires, even if in town, the time to start fire mitigation is now, not later. A lot of people there had already taken fire mitigation measures, especially after Waldo last year. Sadly, some still did nothing at all, which there is no excuse. Regardless though, some houses were likely lost even after taking all the measures they could. This fire season is far from over.

Unreal..... I can't imagine having everything you are comfortable with destroyed especially if there was loss of life. I donated money and food/water to the Red Cross but wish I could do more....

Yeah, I donated 4 cases of Gatorade and 8 cases of water on Wednesday to help the firefighters, but that doesn't really do anything for the people who lost everything... Our church collected a few thousand dollars to buy visa prepaid cards for the parishioners of Our Lady of the Pines in Black Forest. They had about 50 parishioners lose their homes, so we are hoping we can at least help them get some food and enough of the essentials to get by until insurance pays out.

It's a really crappy situation all the way around...
