Was bored at work today so I called the NFA branch and check the status of my form 1. They guy on the phone said something along the lines of law enforcement certification is invalid/ incomplete. Does anyone know what this means for Jeffco? (Form 1 not a trust) Should be in the mail this week at my house.

Did you send 2 copies of the Form 1? Also could be something as stupid as a missed signature. You will just have to wait and see what the issue is.

got my form 1 back today.

The "name of maker: was not signed off on. Do I write my name in this section or does LEO do this?

Is the Form 1 on a Trust or not. If trust, not necessary, if an individual then yes.

I did individual for my first form 1. I set up a trust earlier this year for my other nfa items

Back to the Sheriff's office. See if they can do it while you wait. Don't forget to make copies of all nfa paperwork you send in.

BEFORE YOU SEND IT BACK I'd call the ATF and see if you can "correct" the form 1 to your trust without "losing your place in line".

You only have a week or two to return the form before you really do lose your place in line, so don't procrastinate.

Excellent idea. This would remove the need to get the LE signature again AND save another $200

Error-corrected forms go back to a special address, not the regular one - you don't "lose your place in line".

Error status forms are considered abandoned 30 days from the day they were sent back, and government timekeeping goes by postmarks, so you've generally got about 3 weeks to get it back in the mail.

The old $200 would eventually be refunded if an error status form was abandoned, so you wouldn't "lose" the $200 - just be out the $200 for a few months if you resubmitted an entirely new form with a new $200 payment.

That's true if all you're doing is correcting something. Note my suggestion was to substitute a form 1 listing the trust -- in that case I don't know if you lose your place in line.

SO i called in today

Here is what i will have to do in a nut shell

Once i get my form 1 (indivdual) i can pay another $200 and have the item transfered to my trust.

Or you could withdraw your current application and receive a refund of your $200 fee. Then resubmit in the name of the Trust. The problem with this is that it'd start your wait time at zero again.

Before you withdraw your application altogether, I'd suggest trying to amend it to name the Trust as the applicant instead of you, individually. I've had some clients have success with this and others not so much. It'd be worth a try if you ultimately want it in your Trust.

... Ok. Never mind about that second part. I re-read your post (moved my lips while reading this time--apparently that helps my comprehension) and see that you've already tried that. Bummer. I'll put another tally mark in the "UNsuccessful" column. The only consistent aspect of the ATF application process is INconsistency!

How long did the ATF have your form before deciding it was incorrect?

October to August - ten months or so with an extra month and a half for the correction turnaround. Congrats.

Right within the current estimated time frame. The holidays in Nov / dec could throw that time frame, off.
