View Full Version : Confused about the wait time on stamps.
Just called in on the two stamps I have out right now. The excepted return date is way the hell out there. Anyone else call recently and get the same info?
SBR pending 2-13 told should be ready in November.
Suppressor Pending May 21 told should be ready in February.
Also on the suppressor it took 2 months from time check cash till pending.

I submitted three in February, I sure hope this wait time isn't true but nothing surprises me anymore with the gov.

And you concern is, You new to the NFA scene,? 6-8 months IS the norm. So A Feb pending to potential Nov approval IS 6 months. You should browse islandermyk's WAIT TIME threads.

The last time I looked at a calendar that is 9 months. Yes I'm new to the NFA scene but everything I see is 6 months after pending not 9.
I should of saved my $400 and just got a Class 3 license. I would of had that in 3 months.

What strength do you need? Yes I know the license is more than $400 but I have talked to a couple of Class 3 dealers and they said it took about 3 months. Plus being able to purchase post 86 samples would pay for itself in the savings.

You cannot purchase Post sample guns w/out LE letter head, be attached to a LE or mil dept. You can however mfg for your personal use.
Read everything NFA related before spending more money, needlessly, and complaining after the fact.
The Gun Owners Protection Act of 1986 (GOPA 86): A somewhat vague statement was added to this bill that has been interpreted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) and some Federal Courts to mean no machine guns registered after enactment (May 19, 1986) can be built and sold to private individuals. BATFE further concluded that Special Occupational Tax (SOT) payers cannot receive "post-May" guns without first presenting a letter from a qualifying government agency that has requested to see the firearm. These rulings do not apply to other types of National Firearms Act (NFA) firearms. Transfers to government agencies having law enforcement or military functions are allowed. SOT payers who are also licensed as manufacturers are allowed to produce machine guns from scratch, from kits, or by means of conversion. They cannot transfer them to private individuals. They can be transferred to other SOT payers or government agencies only as described above. Post-May 19th guns cannot be retained by a SOT payer who fails to renew his SOT annually.

Thx, i guess. Just trying to educate the OP, as he seems to be misunderstanding NFA lic and tax stamps altogether . Someone, somewhere, is blowing smoke up his posterior.
Even money, or lunch, say's the OP will be up in arms come month #6 when his approval's are still PENDING. Hopefully for us he'll have them.

Hear ya. Figure all the people on this board who own NFA items there would be some discussion on it already.RIGHT HERE!
Advanced Search (http://www.ar-15.co/search.php)
Reminds me of the HTF on arfcom. Every 2-3rd thread is from someone outside of CO who ask, WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE BRINGING MY RIFLE, PISTOL, MAGAZINES TO CO.
There's a whole web site from the NRA, among many that covers it. IMAGINE if folks today had to use an actual Phone Book [facepalm]

12 months[facepalm] JK. What's he buying next?
Talked with guy's from TBAC , Silencerco, and Surefire last week . The NFA branch lost all the temp hires after the sequester and one of the full time examiners got promoted . Because of the hiring freeze there are no plans to replace them . Dealer to dealer transfers are at 3 months and climbing and form 4's are 6-8 months and climbing . It's just gonna keep getting worse until the demand insanity goes down .
The thing to remember is the NFA is there to discourage ownership not streamline the process . Is what it is and bitchin about it onto the internet ain't gonna change a thing .
Wow you guys really blow things out of proportion. I have read all there is to know about NFA rules and regs and yes some of my statements above don't go into the full details of what you need to do to get this or that. I was just asking WTF has happened to the time frame. There are plenty of post in the NFA section about how long it takes which only a couple of months ago was 6 months. Now I see that all the temp hires are gone so those times are creeping up. I find it humorous that people will tell you go search so and so post and in that post it says around 6 months. If the above poster would of posted what he posted I would of been well that makes sense. But just like every other internet forum people think that they are all high and mighty even though most of the time they are the biggest bitchers.
So why doesn't everyone go back to bitching about people re-posting and how all the new laws are going to effect you. The next time I have a question I will go to another forum where they answer your question and move on.

You complained about the "Wait Time" High yes, mighty no.
Why any need for details? it's not a quick turn around time for any NFA approval. If you were unaware of it prior to getting in to the game you are now.
Lighten up Francis.

I was fully aware of the wait times. I was told by the ATF when I called to see if the SBR went pending it would be August for approval. Then when I called for the suppressor to see if it went pending I'm told February for it. So I ask about the SBR and it's now November. If you reread my original post nowhere do I bitch about the wait times I bitch about the sudden increase in time. If you are so up on NFA items you could of just answered my question and moved on, but you decided to give me the big fu check this post and that post. Oh and while I'm at it I should use the search function also.
I now have my answer thanks to a poster that just answered my question and moved on. So you can go back to telling people they need to use the search function and heaven forbid they make a repost. Also if you admit you are high maybe you should put that down on the next form 4473 you fill out and see how that works out and if you feel you need to get the last word in go ahead and post because I'm done here.
End to end time (mailing 'till stamp received) is now about 9 months, maybe more. This despite the ATF adding people a year ago and promises of shorter times, it's gone up by 2-3 months. If anyone thinks this isn't a manufactured delay, I have a bridge for sale.

So here is an update for everyone on how long it is taking to get ATF approval for Stamps.
I mailed off 2 form 4's and a form 1 at the end of December. They cashed my check on january 3rd. I called today for a status in July 3, is 6 months and I was told that mine was approved and sent to a final signature on May 28th and that this final step can take up to 60 days. So it looks like a 9 month wait that was stated at the begining of this thread is now going to be normal.

So i called that ATF again just now and talked to Mary. What is funny is that the last time i called, I was told that my paperwork went in for a final signature on May 28th and that they have 60 days to turn it around and then my paperwork would be mailed to my dealer. When I just now talked to Mary, she said that my paperwork went into pending on January 28 and that approvals are now taking 9 months from the pending date [fail]

Just a update for you. Mine went pending on January 14 (or 17th can't remember?) My stamp was approved on July 30th. With any luck you may only be a week or 2 away.

I'm seeing .223/5.56 ammo quite often lately. It's getting better.
